That doesn't sound quite how I intended it! Some dogs don't like peanut butter. The issue with peanut butter is that some brands, more often the other nut butters rather than peanut butter, contain xylitol as a sweetner, and xylitol can be toxic to dogs. So always check your jar doesn't contain xylitol Don't think so particularly, I thought it was more a US thing....... My peanut butter has never contained it, and I tend to buy supermarket brands for Lilly rather than the "Top brands".
It's definitely more a US thing. It's rare in the UK, but is in some of the specialist PB for things like bodybuilding.
We get the supermarket's organic peanut butter which Homer and I share. No extra salt or sugar or anything added. He gets to lick the spreading knife after I've done my toast. It's also useful for helping his medication go down. I sometimes mix peanut butter with kibble in his Kong. He doesn't get more than a teaspoon each time.
I've made my own. So much more delicious than bought. No additives! And so easy. Toast the peanuts in a frying pan - dry, don't use oil. Then blitz in a blender (I use a Nutribullet) with some added oil to make it creamier. Add salt if you want. You can make other nut butters, not that I've heard of a dog with a peanut allergy (but I guess it's possible). Snowie adores almond butter!
