I thought I'd just share this warning, since it's been in my mind over the last few days. I've had loads of deliveries recently, and we all know that puppies love ripping up a cardboard box, so Luna's had her share to play with.

Lots of my deliveries are from Amazon and I noticed how their packing tape, though paper-based, is reinforced with cotton threads. I keep thinking of the poor pup who died after ingesting a thread which got caught around her gut. So, if you do give your puppy a box to play with, then please make sure you remove all traces of packing tape from it first, just to be on the safe side.

    Play safe :)

Yikes! Very good caution. Bessie loves boxes too, and most of ours are from Amazon.

    A very good point Fiona.
I have to say, though, that my OH isn't keen on the ripping up paper box thing, as he says that it is teaching a bad habit and she might rip up something she shouldn't, thinking its for her.
    We just ignore him though.
That thread reinforced tape is awful stuff though. I never have scissors handy and have suffered from trying to do without :shake:

I did think that, but I've not had an issue with W&S. They seem to understand the difference between something that's given to them to rip up and something that's out of bounds. Now they're adults, that is. There was an incident with Willow and a €10 note at one point... :D

That's what OHs are for ;)

Lilly's 12 kg bag of Simpsons food was sat in out sunroom for 2 days last week with free and unsupervised access when we were at work/school and it survived totally unscathed

I've never let mine do the cardboard box thing, I always been uncomfortable with it. I worry about them ingesting it and also getting into the habit of opening boxes. I don't think its wrong I just have never been happy doing it.

I tried it once and had to stop Corona as she was ingesting it in seconds, rip, swallow, rip, swallow. Decided it wasn't for us. Plus, we will be moving in a couple of months and I don't want her shredding my boxes when I start packing.;)

Thank you Fiona - I must admit I do not give Bailey Amazon boxes. I always worry that he might cut his mouth on the thick cardboard. I've usually given him things like the cardboard boxes multipack soft drinks come in and shoe boxes - much thinner card. Luckily Bailey is just a ripper and spitter, to date he's never swallowed any cardboard - or paper (envelopes) or plastic (carrier bags if we drop one when unpacking the shopping).
