Does anyone have any tips for de-crating of a night time..... I am considering it.. I dont know if Rolo would settle knowing the crate was open and we werent in the room..(I know I wont know untill I try) Any tips would be appreciated.
Do what I did. Fell asleep on the sofa watching a film. Woke up the next morning, house not destroyed = bonus.
Hard act to follow @snowbunny .. bit more boring , I just did it! Made sure nothing tempting on surfaces and moved bin out of kitchen, which is were her crate is, and left the door open one night after usual routine, no problems. She doesn't sleep with me.
Kind of depends on your house...do you have a room Rolo can be left safely in? Libby has the whole utility room as her own. It means I can't leave the washing drying in there but that's not so bad. She'll think it's Christmas finding the crate open!
We just went for it one night. We put a gate up going upstairs, so he can't wander in and wake our kids up but he has free run of the rest of the house. We've never had an issue. After his nightly walk, he usually curls up in his chair and is out for the night. He moves around. Sometimes I'll come down in the morning and he's sprawled on the couch, sometimes he's laying on the tile by our front door cause it's nice and cool, the odd time he's curled up in his crate. He's also not a huge chewer though, so I don't usually have to worry about him wrecking anything
Thanks all! He would be confined to the kitchen, no bins etc for him to get at as its all integrated. My main worry is chewing, But i hope with it being night time and dark he wouldn't be too bothered. Nothing will be left on worktops etc, I may let him roam into the hall but not the living room.
I think that's how it works! Not so easy to sneak a cup of tea back upstairs in the morning now though!
I tried leaving a light on for him because I felt bad, but my boyfriend came behind me and turned them off haha.
I like to keep a night light on! I started with that on a daily, but we have been lessening it just because I feel better with less lights on
Axel sleeps in our room. So we just left the door open to his crate and he would switch through out the night between that and the rug on our floor in front of the bed. Now we have removed the crate completely from our room and he chooses his dog bed to sleep on. Sometimes he gets up to go get a drink from the kitchen, but that's only happened a handfull of times. I think they are already tired and ready to sleep for the night so they aren't likely to be destructive. Just my opinion though
