I've done multiple car trips with Nelly but she's always been in my arms on my lap. Should I be starting to get her used to being on the back seat or boot. I have a seatbelt for her. Should I put her in something on the back seat whilst she's strapped in? Not sure how to do it?
Hi we have Bailey in a harness that is then clipped to the seat belt attachment and clipped into the seat belt clip on the back seat. We have done this since he was about 10 weeks old. We would have preferred a car crate but our car is too small for one. As soon as Bailey's hated harness is put on, we then clip his lead to his collar to get him to the car - he won't walk with the halter clipped to the lead - put him in the back seat, unclip his lead and then clip him into the seat belt holder, he lays down then until we arrive. There is enough room for him to sit up and move positions if he wants to. I know a lot of people have crash tested crates in their cars, but as I said I've never had one so can't comment on that one.
I have visions of a full size lab sat on your knee in a few months We used a divider and put Lilly in the boot. She wasn't that bothered maybe we were lucky.
I had the same vision. Lol gotta be careful what you let them do now. They'll try the same things when they are 30kg
I started off with a crate that I knew would be too small for her within a few weeks but was the only size that fitted my car and when I collected her I was alone so didn't have someone to hold her. This worked well and then I moved on to a harness attached to a seat belt clip and now I use just a seat belt clip. Each one has worked fine and the latter is the least restrictive and therefore most comfortable. She sits on vet bedding for comfort. She is now 18 weeks and I guess I've been using the seat belt clip only since she was 11 or 12 weeks.
We put our dog in a car hammock which is perfect as it is a little den for him. It then has spaces in order to put a dog seat belt on that we attatch to his harness. We put blankets and stuff in it so he feels all cosy and he tends to just sleep. Perfect if your taking him out alone, not too great when you have someone else in the backseat. You do get ones that zip in half, so you can have one side for the doggy and the other for a human. I had one like that, but it recently died. I decided to go with a standard one without the zip this time, because I never really used it, and it was the bit that broke on the last one - after over a year of good use, so I don't think it was awful for the £8.99 I paid for it
