Sure! I travelled with my dog a lot...like six years on the road full time a lot. It takes extra preparation to make sure you have all the right stuff along for the trip as well as finding dog-friendly lodging, but it's a total blast to have your furry buddy along. Does he/she ride well in the car already? If yes, my suggestion would be to plan the "stuff" part of the trip and then try for an overnight trip on the weekend. That trial will let you see how your dog reacts to travel, how you may need to pace your longer trip and also what you've forgotten to bring along that you need to add to your pack list. If your pup doesn't ride well in the car, that's something to work on well in advance. Also if you are planning travel in warmer weather, remember that your dog cannot be left alone even for a few minutes in the car. I know that sounds obvious, but it affects things like popping into pay for gas (only if you are traveling alone) or stopping for a meal break for yourself.
Absolutely, we had a great holiday last year on a Loch in Scotland with our two dogs, they had an amazing time Like Emily said, be prepared and make sure you take everything you need for the trip, lots of stops, water, food, towels etc. Make lists, lots of lists, I can't cope without a list! x
Wow! That's a lot of miles! How are you planning on doing this trip? Road trip? Flights? Sort of affects how your dog may cope. We often spend a lot of time in the car on holidays, and Lilly adapts really well. She just likes to be with us. Not nearly enough walking during these trips for me, hey ho, but sometimes you have to compromise.
We would be driving in our SUV. I'm wondering what you can do on vacation with your pup since your not suppose to walk the too much at this age. Any suggestions?
Maybe do what I was planning to do for my elderly boy in the case that he couldn't walk anymore: push cart/stroller/wagon? They make some really cool ones that can either be attached to a bike or converted to push with a handle attachment. Of course you may not have room in your SUV and she may not want to stay put in it. Not sure how it would work, to be honest. Just an idea!
Oh, thought you meant how to deal with the walking thing since he's still young. I guess it depends on where you are going and what you were planning to do anyway?
Wow, the beach is a 2500 mile round trip? Where do you live? There are a lot of websites around depending on where you are that have ideas for dog-friendly stuff to do, places to eat and stay. But it kind of depends where you are where you want to drive to.
