    Hi all,

We have had Byron for just over 4 weeks now. Wow it feels like a year! :D

We love him to bits, has been a very steep learning curve as it is our first dog, but think we are slowly getting into a routine. I think the biggest shock was the nipping, I must have come back to this forum almost daily to read other experiences and reassure myself that it was perfectly normal.

We can finally take him for walks now. Took him to the park across the road from us and let him off the lead for a bit and was so pleased we had him running between us whilst getting him used to the recall. He was knackered when he got back home.

He did so well at puppy socialisation, everyone loved him and he was really good with the other pups. He made friends with a Bernese Mountain dog http://instagram.com/p/BQ7qfWUh5h2/

Has slept for 7 hours in his crate since we got him home, only whined a bit on the second night. He even manages in his crate for up to an hour if we pop out, and just goes to sleep when he realises we are not there.

This forum along with Pippa's books have been brilliant.

I won't lie, both me and my girlfriend have both experienced a form of the puppy blues at various stages  Again, this forum is great for reassurance.

It sounds like he's settled in really well. Puppies can be hard work, but you're doing a good job with him. Please send more pictures!

My puppy Red is almost 12 weeks and I have posted on here recently - Puppy Blues - as I go from positive to negative so easily due to extreme tiredness. Love your positive post. Just about to start walking Red so very interested to hear you have let Byron off lead. Do you have to get up to him during those 7 hours? I am getting up twice a night but only cos I sense she needs to go, she doesn't make any sound. Pippa's books are very good but need time to read them - so much information gathering at the moment :)

Hi Atemas, I think the first night we left him in his crate for a total of 6 hours and checked on him in the middle of the night. He was fast asleep so we didn't take him out. He whined in the morning so we waited until he went quiet and then went downstairs to take him straight out. Ever since then he very rarely wakes up until I start moving about upstairs when I get up for work, and that is normally 7 hours after we have put him to bed. So far we have not had an accident in his crate. Lovely photo of Red :)
