Do you ever give your Labrador banana as a treat?

In this recent article from The Labrador Site, we look at whether it's a good idea to feed dogs bananas? Finding out whether it's good for them, safe and whether it's possible for them to have too much?

Bananas are good food for dogs and us. Not to be overdone, same as most fruits and vegetables for dogs. When I fed raw, BARF, I blended all the veggie and fruit parts and my VEt told me there was no reason to not put the peel in as well. Indeed, many of my human blender recipes say to put the peel of things I normally wouldn't eat right in with the fruit or veggie.

What I'm curious about now is grapefruit. Someone on the other forum had a panic when her dog ate some grapefruit and it turns out most of us didn't know it was toxic to dogs. I tried to find out how much they could eat before symptoms would appear but could not find it.

My Labs will not even taste a banana, they turn their noses up and yet the younger one is normally quite adventerous in what he likes to eat!

Sam loves bananas too, he shares one with me at least three times a week , also apples and pears . He also grazes on blackberries in season , usually before I get to them x

Brogan LOVED bananas. He went to Spanish classes with me in Salamanca and one day my teacher brought him a banana as a treat because her dogs loved them so much. After that he was hooked and I bought him a bunch every week. :)

My pup eats bananas. For a while I chopped them into chunks and froze them so she had something to chew on to help her puppy teeth. Now I mash some and fill the top of the Kong with it, on top of chopped apple.

But the three labs I grew up with, who ate almost anything, including poo, dead frogs, unidentifiable trash, turned their noses up at bananas!

Finn loves to eat bananas! When I make my breakfast with oatmeal, blue berry and banana he gets a little peace what is left over. Also a few blue berries. Twice a week. He often finds a banana peel when walking in the neighborhood. He is not allowed to pick it up. He has to leave it, he then will look at me and has question marks in his eyes, as if he will ask why not, I always get this from you....

Mabel loves bananas I mash up two and fill four kongs then freeze them. I used to buy doggie ice cream but it got a bit expensive ( not in my world but in OH's ) so this is her version of a frozen treat.

Bananas make me :puke: but since Quinn loves them, I plug my nose and gag through mashing them up for her kongs.
