Just back from my "Luna walk". She really does amaze me. Is it that I'm a better trainer now, or is it that she's an easier puppy to train than W&S? But, after we'd done our training walk up on the mountain, we walked the couple of hundred metres home along the road*, the entire way off-lead, to heel, and even with the massive distraction of someone walking just behind us. She's just brilliant. Bring on adolescence. * This is the end of a dead-end road, with a hairpin so you can see the road for a long way below you, so with a lot of notice if any car should be coming - and, when they do, they're slow because of the hairpin. The sort of road that everyone walks down the middle of, rather than using the pavements.
Also, yesterday we did a socialisation walk into the gondola station at peak time. I stopped to talk to a couple of people. One of them told me that choccies were untrainable. I looked down at my 4.5 month old puppy, sitting beautifully at heel, waiting patiently for me to finish talking. Untrainable. Right.
Rolos daycare lady said he was good, hyper but good... Did she expect anything less from a Labrador? Gus the beagle looks worn out
Hey, you are giving me motivation to lean towards getting a choccy. Helping to break the "choccies are untrainable" stereotype could replace my former mission of trying to break the "Rottweilers are vicious" stereotype. Everyone needs a mission in life.
Aw...he actually looks pretty bright-eyed to me. He's just working you for the steak, like @snowbunny says. Brogan had the funniest deal with cones, and with two TPLOs, he had a lot of cones in his life. If I put a cone on him, he simply would not move. A single muscle. Ever. Which meant that if you put the cone on him standing up, he'd just stand there and not move until you took the cone off. So I'd need to get him laying in a comfortable position, THEN put the cone on. After an hour or so, I'd need to take it off him, get him to switch hips, have a drink, etc., then lay him down again and stick the cone on again. For his first TPLO, I had him tethered to the couch like the vet said to do, but I never bothered for the second operation. All I had to do was stick his cone on and it was like and instant freeze ray. Poor guy!
@SwampDonkey there is a lady in Redditch that does a Scentwork Course. Google Lakeside doggie day care. Mabel was supposed to go on it back in October but she wasn't fit enough. We are hopping to go later in the year as we couldn't make the weekend this month.
Thanks that good ill have a look. I found one in lutterworth too and am looking for a few more I sure I find one that I can get to. I think Rory will like it.
They are bound to make you feel better I just been for a lovely walk with Rory . I don't know what is about the first sunny day but I saw my first semi clad bloke walking round the park. No shirt and a pair if jogging bottoms, with no pants and trainers. He just had perv written all over him. All the dog walkers i know just thought the same as me we all saw him and thought oh oh flasher. Never see em when it's cold, it just seems like a prelude to spring. The birds are singing the flowers are blooming and the flashers are getting frisky.
My random dog thought for today is that cats are weird. OK, that's not a dog thought, is it? I'm cat-sitting for a neighbour and just go over there twice a day - they didn't think he'd be happy staying at my place. So I pet him for a few minutes, and just when I start to think this whole "cat" thing isn't too bad, he bites me on the ankle and runs away. Sigh. He's a very handsome cat and I'm sure I'll get used to the blood loss, but I miss having a dog.
Bringing Quinn to OH's dad's nursing home tonight for a visit. I was surprised (happily) that they allow non-therapy dogs on site, especially the thought that you could bring a beloved family pet to visit and how much joy that could bring an elderly person. I hope she doesn't act like a maniac in a new place! Stocking up on chews/kongs/ball.
OH couldn't understand why Stanley always bothers him when he's eating but never bothers me.. tonight I've watched the troublesome twosome. OH had chicken and rice for his tea.. Stanley got some. He then went and got some ice cream, Stanley got some. He's now eating chocolate - Stanley got dog treats since he couldn't have any. No I really have no idea why he bothers OH when he's eating
Well it's taken longer than I thought but I came down this morning and Stanleys chewed through his cone. Luckily he hasn't followed Axel's example and it all seems to be there Little devils!
Oh Stanley glad he didn't eat any of it! Now to find another alternative for the cone. I ended up sending Axel to daycare every day with the blow up cone. Even though he could still reach I felt it did help distract him not to. At daycare he would have free time for himself to walk around and do his thing and was also in a big crate with toys and a bone because he couldn't play with the other dogs. Least I knew he was always supervised vs being at home by himself left to eat the blow up cone. Which I was obviously very worried he would have
