George loves his crate (in our bedroom). He will go in there on his own a few times a day to rest, and we put him there at night, or with a treat Kong whenever we go out, with no complaints from him. But when we are home he also loves to lie down in the living room with us (on the cold, hardwood floor!), so we are thinking of getting a dog bed as well. Would this confuse him? Should we keep the crate as his one official "resting space"? Most important factor here being I don't want him to start to dislike his crate. Where do you pups sleep -- do they have multiple designated sleeping spots? (Oh, he also sleeps on OUR bed sometimes, when he's lucky ).
We had two beds + crate for several months, and confusingly called all of them her "bed" (she knew which one we were talking about when we pointed the direction of the room we meant). It caused no issues for us and she was still fine going into her crate. When we eventually took down her crate, we moved her large bed to the location where the crate was. She has always had a bed in the living room - she typically goes to the bed in the same room as us, but when very tired, goes to her big bed in our bedroom on her own.
Ripple has a crate for night time and whilst the cats are eating their tea. He has a plastic basket with vet bed for the daytime, which is in the kitchen. Then in the evening he comes in the lounge where he has a posh Orvis bed which belonged to my previous lab. There is also a crate in the lounge which I have only used on a couple of occasions when he wouldn't leave the cat alone (and also once when Crufts was on this year and he got completely silly watching flyball ). Ripple doesn't get at all confused, he is fine with any bed anywhere .
From tiny puppy stage I always have a bed in the lounge and a crate in the kitchen, and currently have a bed in he lounge, a bed in the kitchen and a soft crate in the dining room. I've never experienced any problems with understanding of where to go to relax and snooze, it just enables a comfy place to relax and be close tome at the same time
Quick count - in the living room, there are currently four beds of various descriptions on the floor, plus a crate with vet bed in a pen that has another bed in it. And the dogs?
We used to have a crate and bed in the living room and a bed in our bedroom.......her chosen place to sleep is the sofa or our bed, so now we only have a bed in the living room for when we are eating. She sleeps with us, or rather allows us to have a small spot on the bed!
Stanley has his bed in his crate. Or he has a spot on the couch with a blanket on where he's allowed to go or he sleeps on the rug. (Or the bed when OH isn't in )
That bottom photo cannot be Luna? So grown up! Multiple bed household here too..... and make no mistake,there is no confusion that our king size human bed is the favourite of them all .....
Saba has a crate which he sleeps in overnight, and uses for escaping from the pesky grandchildren. He also has a day bed in our kitchen, and has recently learned to manoeuvre his way onto the sofa. So yes, multiple sleeping spots!
Ha ha, this already looks familiar! We went ahead (thanks to everyone's comments!) and bought a dog bed for the living room. So far he is still choosing to flop on the floor beside it (!!!), or up on the couch, or our bed as usual. Maybe he'll take a liking to it eventually? Or maybe not...
We have 3 dog beds that both dogs share plus our own bed and furniture which they also share. Cooper also has her crate (never closed) which she does not share, or at least no one else wants to use it.
Similar story here, three dog beds, one in the kitchen, bedroom and living room. Usually the dog can be found on one of two sofas, the arm chair or our bed. So, I guess you could say it has caused some confusion...
Yes, I agree with everyone else - I also just had beds all over the house (2 in living room, 2 in bedroom) plus the dogs were allowed on all the furniture. The dog beds and pads just seem to kind of organically multiply. "Bed? This IS my bed!"
We have two beds in the kitchen and a piece of vets bed. Another bed in the shack. In the snug we have what we call the dog sofa and Annie still has her soft body crate with a bed inside it, which she loves. She is never put in it, but when we took it down she kept laying where it had been. So we put it back up for her and she is happy. Still I can go in the snug and find one of them on my chair
