Hi Jyssica ,sorry you've had such a rough couple of days ....and I'm glad he's on the mend now and I hope your Family member is ok too x Can I just raise a point you made in your original post ? Eating the vomit? Ok ,I realise that mostly they want to eat it but is this something that has been recommended /advised somewhere? I just couldn't let it happen if it was in my power to prevent it......makes me feel a bit sick thinking about it.......Of Course Dexter has done it but only for the split second he gets to it before me ...there was a horrible time his friend helped out with the clean up operation too! Blummin dogs, they are revolting
Thanks Angela! Everyone is doing much better now. It was on this here very forum I was advised that. When he was younger he used to eat so fast and bring his dinner back up. I made a post and people advised if the food was whole there was no harm! I didnt let him eat any of the others as they were actual sick and not food
Glad he's better Jyssica Dogs like the taste of regurgitated food because it's how mummy dog would have fed them. The pup would pester the sides of mum's mouth until she brought some up. When Callum first met Gavin he managed to get him to do it! ,,,
Do adult dogs continue to do this? I notice Snowie does this and dogs do it back to him. I thought they just liked the taste of each other's saliva. Or perhaps it was a greeting thing. We call it being the dental hygienist. It makes sense now re puppies - they often do it to Snowie.
Sometimes dogs regurgitate their food if they haven't chewed it properly the first time. The obviously applies more to big chunks of food than kibble. To stop them re-eating it would be like giving them their dinner and then whipping the plate away If they truly vomit, they won't eat it back.
We had a momentary period of him being better now hes back to being sick. Hes only been on bland food since the vets i cant understand. He ate some grass before i csught him and tbrew that all up. Poor mite will have to call the vet again if it doesnt ease up.
Awwwpoor Rolo! Have you tried starving him for a while? Stanley had a bug a few months ago and was up through the night. I rang my vet on the morning and she said to skip his breakfast and not give him anything to eat until around 4/5pm then give him scrambled eggs. His tummy seemed ok after that - I think it was giving his tummy chance to settle. Might be worth a try
Thanks Jen I tried that yesterday to no avail Hes now just throwing up pure bile with blood in. The vet gave me antibiotics for if he threw up blood as she said she didnt want me to worry as they were shut the weekend. The scrambled egg seemed to digest but still loads of bile this morning
Oh dear, it sounds as if Rolo's got a very persistent bug. Do call the vet again today, as he might need to go on a drip if he's becoming dehydrated. Hope he's better soon.
I spoke to her this morning she said often when they are empty they burst blood vessels trying to vomit and gave me tablets for if there was any blood brought up. she said if gums and eyes are fine and hes drinking he nerds a few days on the antibiotics xx
Oh wow poor Rolo, this bug seems to be taking its time going away. Hopefully these antibiotics work and he's on the mend!
hmmm...if this has been going on for a while, I personally would not wait for gums to become pale before returning to the vet. I would be concerned about dehydration, and my dog being uncomfortable. Especially if your dog is constantly vomiting and just bringing up bile and a bit of blood.
We have some success..no sick or bile or anything of the like for 24 hours woohoo came down to a clean dry kitchen. Also i think i may of successfully decrated Rolo overnight. Capitalising on his sick bout. He hasnt been in the crate for the laat 2 nights and has been very good. Every cloud hey
