hi everyone, we're due to go to the Lake District for a week at Easter at which point Maisie will be 5.5 months old. I'm now panicking that it'll all be a bit stressful as she'll try and destroy everything in the house we're staying in and her routines will go out of the window (a bit like when you take a baby/young toddler away for the first time!).

Any advice or tips on how we can make it go smoothly? Or am I worrying unnecessarily?

Hi there, we took Poppy on holiday with us when she was 4.5 months old. To be sure she was a good and easy puppy, but honestly it was a great trip and she fit in wonderfully. We had a crate with us which we used in the car, and she slept in that in our room. I was very careful not to let her out of my sight so nothing got chewed or destroyed. I think it depends what kind of puppy you have - I'd be wary of taking a live-wire that isn't toilet trained away on holiday, but a calm puppy will probably take things in her stride.

I knew the people we were renting from, and made it clear they knew we were taking a puppy with us. I think that's only fair.

Stanley was 5.5 months old when we took him to the Lake District.

He was no bother really - we just took his crate & bed and some throws for the couches.

He chewed one coaster (on OH's watch ) but we had a lovely week and are looking at going somewhere again this year :)

We took Homer to Dorset when he was 5/6 months old. We stayed with friend who had set up their house as a BandB but a vertices as "no pets". He had a medium sized crate which we took with us and set up in the little kitchenette attached to our room. He was used to being left in his cage and quite happy to stay there when we went out for a meal in the evening.

Since we've had many trips as well as going to France.

    Towels, two or three
his own bed unless he will sleep with you
A throw rug to put on the bed or furniture or to spread out on the carpet
His lead (we left this behind once)
A long line lead as the garden might not be secure.
    Food bowels
    His usual brand of food.
    Poop bags
    Balls and toys
A Kong and something sticky to fill it with.

MORE towels than you think you will need. You can never have too many dog towels on holiday.
