Every morning, Nelly's crate floor has a damp patch under the bed she lies on. Firstly, you'd think it was wee. But no! The top of the bed is always bone dry. There isn't an excess or puddle of wee it's just a wet patch. She used to hold it through the night and to be honest I still think she does now. The other day, she was left for the longest - 4 hours. She unfortunately did wee and it was very obvious (puddle, everything soaked theough) Also, she does not wine or cry at all during he night which is even more strange because she does cry when she needs to toilet. Is she doing a little wee in her sleep, is she sweating? It totally stumps me! (She also is desperate for the toilet in a morning as if she's been holding it)

Very strange. It doesn't sound like wee. Could it be condensation? Or drool?

I was going to suggest that she may be suckling on a blanket, as many pups do this , but if her bedding is dry , that's not likely !

I'd maybe try a different bed? Then you'll be able to see if it's something Nelly's doing or it was that bed :)

Dogs don't sweat, that's why they pant.

I think the 'dry' top material may just be quick drying material?

Possibly but it's a cushion type basket insert with a blanket over the top. A human blanket really and I wouldn't have thought that would dry with her laying on top of it all night. Honestly it's very strange. It's almost as if she lifts the bed up, wees underneath it and then covers it up and goes back the sleep. I think that's unlikely!

Because she does 'it' every night we have to change her bed to something different every night so I'm pretty sure it's not what she's sleeping on. She has a crate mat, a plastic basket, a cushion thing, and blankets all on rotation because of things going in the wash. It's getting very tedious now!

What type of flooring do you have? Could there be damp that is forming because of her body heat and pressure?

@Olivia__ , you'll have to get one of those camera things to see what's going on!

It could be mild incontinence. Xena had this for about a month at 10 months (it seems to have just stopped, I'm not complaining). Just a tiny wet patch in her crate, definitely not a full bladder evacuation. I took her to the vet - urine test, ultrasound - NOTHING. Vet said that some dogs struggle to hold their wee when they're really full, and you say that Nelly is busting when you get up...I'd rule out something medical first, just in case.

I'm pretty sure it's not that because she's in a crate so it would have to come through the bars on the flooring of the crate and then through the tray thing that covers the crate.

Ahhh, okay. We have a baby play pen for Harls so her bed is on the wooden floor.

I think it is just condensation from a warm body laying on a colder surface, even if that surface is covered by vet bed or some other dog bed.

This happens with Plum too. The plastic tray underneath her bed in her crate sometimes has a damp patch on it. There is also sometimes a damp patch under her bed on the kitchen tiles. It doesn't happen if I put a piece of vet bed underneath either. I don't know what I thought it was really, I knew it wasn't wee, I think I thought it was something to do with the heat of her body, maybe condensation. I'm not concerned about it though.

Bingo! I'm going to put newspaper down tonight so I can really see the patch of wet and then continue having something separating her body and the floor
