Oh poor boy. Look at him all curled up, he almost looks small! Hope he's back to his normal self soon x
Hope Axel gets better soon. Once he is back to normal you will get no rest as he will have a lot of energy to burn...
Hehe the picture is deceiving a bit. He is taking up two of the three cushions on the couch. Poor little guy. He lost a couple kg from being so sick He's very lazy and slow moving today. Slowly saunters up or down stairs. Slowly walks around. Just lies down everywhere. Makes me sad.
Oh, they're such a worry, aren't they? Mine had some very loose stools yesterday (but was eating and drinking and playing around very normally), so I crossed my fingers and hoped it wasn't anything to worry about. They've firmed up today and he's still eating, drinking, and playing well (full of energy). Everyone tells me to relax, but I can't - I keep a very sharp eye on him. He's my carpet eating, pillow humping, cushion chewing Darling Fingers crossed too for your boy Axel - hopefully he'll be back to himself very soon
Hope Axel is recovered today? What an experience! Curious to know why the vet gave antibiotics when he thought it was a viral infection? Anything with lots of pectin in is good for firming up stools. Raw apples, cooked carrots. And flavored water is a great way to get in liquids - add a tin of tuna, even a raw egg, and he should lap it up. Although you say he was drinking enough. Hope all is normal today! Not fun for you or him.
Yes just horrid when they are under the weather, hope he bounces back soon I wondered about this too.
He said it was an antibiotic to help soothe the tummy and basically just stop the diarrhea. Which it hasn't, just took him outside this morning first thing and he had another round of pure liquid squirts. 48 hours with it now. He is drinking his bowl of water right now as I type this, thankfully. He was hoping for breakfast first thing this morning too which is good at least. I'll try giving him some apples or carrots and see if that helps. I just feel so terrible for him and of course I'm super worried as to what it could be, especially if the meds didn't help like they should have. Apparently they take 12 hours to come in to effect which would have been last night.
Hope the meds kick in soon!! Otherwise I'd be calling the vets. 24 hrs of diarrhea is acceptable. But anything longer and I'd be concerned about dehydration and electrolyte balance.
Yes they will be calling me this morning for an update so I'll definitely be asking. I keep checking to see if he's dehydrated and he's not, thank goodness. I gave him some carrot this morning too which he enjoyed happily. Went outside and diarrhea again although not so water like, still liquid but not like a hose with water coming out. So that's at least a bit of improvement! Wish I didn't have to work today. Thankfully I can come home for lunch and then OH will be home a couple hours after that. Sadly Wednesday's I work a full day, which is the day Axel goes to daycare because of it, but I can't bring him to daycare like this. So I will be thinking of him all morning at work
Really? Diarhoea can be side effect of antibiotics in humans, perhaps dogs are different, Yes, not nice for you to leave him when he's poorly
Metronidazole is a prescription antibiotic used in dogs and cats to treat various conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, nonspecific diarrhea disorders, infections caused by Giardia, and periodontal disease. That was what a quick google search brought up for the antibiotics he is on. My friend works at a vet and says that's what they use as well for dogs with explosive diarrhea, so here is hoping! He definitely isn't going as frequently and the last one was improved from what it was so fingers crossed! I'm at work now though, my poor Axel He's definitely more his playful self today though!
