My lab puppy is 17 weeks old and still not sleeping through the night. She wakes up some time between 3:30-4:30 am every day, and even after a trip outside to potty will not settle back down for a while. Is this normal at her age? We are crate training her and she typically goes to sleep when we do around 10:00 pm. We feed her dinner around 6:00 pm and we take away her water bowl around 8:00 pm to try to avoid the middle of the night potty breaks. We put a towel over her crate at night, and she does seem to like her crate (she will get in it herself and lay down at bed time, etc). She had been getting up multiple times a night when we first goer her and occasionally still does, but it is mostly now just getting up very early, which is taking a toll on us after 2 months. Can we expect her to start sleeping in later soon? Any other suggestions for things we can try?
Heh, my puppy is 6 months and only just starting to sleep through. My last two were very different. Each puppy is an individual and you need to work out their rhythm. For Luna, the turning point has been letting her up onto the bed at night. That makes three Labradors and two humans on a double bed. Yup, it's cosy. But, we slept in until 8:05 this morning. Heaven!
My puppy is now 20 weeks and she has been sleeping right through the night since 18 weeks. Up until then I was getting up twice a night to take her outside for weeks and then once a night. In the end I went to her one night and she was asleep so I left her. She like yours is sleeping in a crate. I remove the water earlier - about 7pm. It is exhausting - I am still trying to regain my own pattern of sleep . I think it is just a maturity thing.
She will begin to sleep through as her bladder matures, they are all different. Mollie took ages to properly sleep through (6 months)
Funny story. We thougt Duggan was sleeping through the night only to discover he had been weeing down the hot air vent for the oil furnace while we slept. There was no evidence till we caught him. lol.
Ours would be chewing up the walls if she wasn't in a crate at night Although, she does seem to be getting better.
