What a worry that must have been! I would have been terrified. Well done for being such an excellent trainer and having that recall on point! Definitely highlights the important and me and Mr Stanley will be working on ours further. At least Miss Mollie is ok and back home safe where she belongs
Wow, so sorry you and Mollie had this scare. More for you than Mollie as she's probably forgotten already and is ready to go again. I'm so impressed with her recall and your training of it. There's nothing worse (for me, at least) than seeing my dog hare off towards danger or just out of my sight. I can remember only three times with all my pups and those three times are burned in my brain forever. I imagine you feel like you've just lost a few years off your life today!
Oh the moment they disappear...you know there is danger ahead but they are oblivious. Time for an early G&T methinks!
I tend to think of the whistle training as just that - training for the future. But today brought it home to me that it's training for NOW too! Thank you for your good wishes, all of you. It did stress me - I flooded the back kitchen when I got home, then made an awkward mistake on my bank account. At least I have a clean back kitchen now lol Mollie is right as rain xx
Oh my heavens, my heart is still beating heavily thinking about how you must have felt. What a very scary happening, I feel for you. To change the subject, I met another guide dog in Waitrose, obviously the in place to be. However, this one had been attacked and was now off duty and staying with another lady; they are not sure she can go back to working as she is now shows her teeth at other dogs, I don't blame her! I asked the lady if she would keep the dog if it couldn't go back to work and she said, no she wouldn't as had never had an aggressive dog. Well, this dog was so gentle and friendly. Apparently she is now not let off the lead poor wee mite. I hate to think she is labelled aggressive as she may be hard to be rehomed as a pet dog.
The re-homing officers at GDs are brilliant and will certainly find her a good forever home - fear not.
Bruce's trainer has just phoned, he's been matched with a lovely lady who lives in a village in North Yorkshire. They are going into training in a couple of weeks, so he's - hopefully - only five weeks away from qualifying. We are going to watch him work in harness on Wednesday - I can't wait!
That's wonderful news, Mags. Bruce has proven to be such a star! And wasn't he the puppy that nearly got disqualified due to his recall until "someone" sorted him out? You must be one proud doggie mum right now.
His trainer says his recall is still 100%. He's been living with her during Advanced training and she's totally fallen for him. Yes, I'm super proud and will be more so on Wednesday - we get to take him a free run after watching him work .
We had a magical morning watching Bruce working with his trainer, then having a free run with us in the park. He was paw perfect. Next week he's going to live with his new owner. Clever boy
Wow, those cut onions seem to have gotten stuck in my eye again. This is why you do what you do, Mags, even if it hurts so much to say goodbye (or hopefully "See you again"). The lucky person who is going to get Bruce as best friend and key to their independence.
Aw Bruce it's always so lovely to see him and well done for being such a great boy who is going to make one owner very happy to have a best friend and to change their life Very well done Mags, again a sad but happy day for you. You are a xxx
