Coco has long been difficult when meeting other dogs. Lunging and pulling. We've been working on this for months at dog school and he's been coming on so well lately. It's probably partly due to the fact that he knows these dogs now, but we've been feeling so positive lately. This morning, I took Coco for a lead walk which went past a farm gate. Well the farm dog, a Border Collie naturally, came legging it out into the lane, baring it's teeth and growling. Coco handled it like a pro! He was torn between wanting to greet and wanting to back off and he stood there, at the end of his lead but not pulling. I said "Coco, LEAVE" and he turned and walked away with me, without looking back. I'm so happy.
Great job Coco! You have every right to be happy. And proud As I sad before, Kona has a reactivity problem. The other day we met a 5 months old labrador/border collie boy and they are both eager to play, so we went to an empty dog park with the dog and his human we've met for the first time. As time passed by, 3 different dogs came to a park, including german shepherd (big female) and each time I've put her on lead and took her to meet the dog. She greeted them and went back to play. Probably looking crazy to others, smile didn't go anywhere from my face for the rest of the day
There very soon comes a point where you really don't care how crazy you look, you do what works. Well done Kona, she's doing really well.
Ah Sue you have every right to be proud of Coco, what a great boy. Love these small steps we take and it's so rewarding when you get the behaviour you have been working so hard to achieve. GREAT xxx
That is so fantastic, and something that I'm aiming for with Xena. I wished I'd worked on ignoring other dogs from day 1, but we live and learn and it's never too late to start correcting our mistakes. She's made great progress over the past couple of months, so I totally understand how happy you are. COCO YOU ARE A STAR!
I think we all wish that but things change. When we got Hattie it was socialise your puppy with all dogs, have doggy fun all the time and now it's ignore, can't keep up x
