Snowie used to sleep on the sofa in our bedroom... until he dug a hole in it! (Banned from it now.) He goes through night-time digging phases - no idea why, we surmise it's cos he's hot, but it can happen on cold nights. So we bought him a very expensive, super-duper huge comfy bed. I loved to lie in it, it was blissfully comfortable. It took up half the floor space in our bedroom. And what did he do? He'd dig in it and then go sleep on his coolmats. Eventually we sold it to an acquaintance - and I just saw on Facebook yesterday a photo of her sleeping in the dog bed!!! Snowie does like a cushion for his head - he has a down pillow at night! He has two coolmats plus the down pillow next to my side of the bed. He also has a big cushion (next to the sofa that he's not allowed on) that he sleeps on. And access to the balcony if he's too hot (wooden floor). He sleeps with us in our bedroom. If it's late and he wants to go to bed, he starts to whine to make us go to the bedroom with him! He gets onto our bed at 5am for his last sleeping hour, sleeps between us with his head at the foot of the bed. Sometimes I wake up to find him on his back, back legs splayed over us. If I had to do it over again, I'd train him to sleep alone in the kitchen cos his constant moving around at night disturbs my sleep. Too late now - don't have the heart to keep him out of the bedroom.
Holly is spoiled. She has a bed in the living room that she uses for evenings and serious napping. There's a dog mat by the patio door that she uses for sunbathing and snoozing during the day. At night she sleeps on the bottom of our bed.
I don't know what the problem is here. Vanilla has a bed in the lounge upstairs, bed downstairs lounge, outdoor bed for the balcony and one on the deck. Plus the usual sofa access, yet still sleeps on our bed making sure her head is on the pillow...
Libby's bed is in the utility room, we call it her bedroom. After last wee, I say bedtime and she goes in. If we're having a late night for any reason she still wants to go in at 10ish. I think we're pretty lucky with her having read other stories because she doesn't chew her bed and I can leave the washing on the airer etc. During the day/evening she has two ikea poang chairs that are now pretty much just hers!
Homer has a super comfy memory foam bed next to ours but he likes to sleep behind the curtain with just his nose sticking out underneath. He also comes up for a cuddle in the morning especially on weekends. During the day he prefers the bed in the guest room, we don't tell our guests that they are sleeping in the dogs bed!
Whatever you choose is fine. My two sleep in separate rooms as the puppy must get used to sleeping alone. Tatze sleeps on vet bed with a blanket which she tends to scrunch up for a pillow. Mollie sleeps on a dog bed, also with a blanket. When we went to stay with my son this weekend Mollie stayed in the same room with us on the floor on her blanket. Guess where she was when we woke up in the mornings? Yup - head on the pillow and stretched out between us .
Bailey has a comfy bed in the lounge, an outdoor bed in the garden and a large cushion bed in our bedroom - daytime is either spent on the settee or in his lounge bed (or the garden bed if we are out there) and at nights he has his bedtime treat on his cushion bed, then he crawls under our bed to fall asleep, at some point overnight he gets up on our bed - I wake in various positions with either his head, butt or paws on me - this morning was paws in my face, head on my butt! Better than the other way around I must admit!
Molly slept in a pen/crate until about 7 months. Her bed is now where the pen was in the back room which opens to the kitchen. The cats sleep in there too, although they are in and out a lot overnight
Xena was in a crate overnight until 12 months. It was very spartan - just a towel with a piece of vet bed over it. We decrated her successfully at 1 and she now moves between sofas or the floor. I bought her a proper bed and put it on the floor but she wouldn't touch it, so I put it on the sofa and now she uses it. For some reason she's happy to sleep on the floor, but not on something on the floor.
My dogs have the couch, and my bed at night. Bessie even has a crate cushion atop the ottoman, which is her spot. But I can take the crate cushion with us to friends' houses, and that's "go to your bed." My house is tiny and most of my living room is couch and almost all the bedroom is bed, so...not much other choice. Neither dog has ever taken to laying on the floor near the couch. I was thinking about trying one of those Coolaroo beds that are elevated with a mesh "hammock" style surface, to see if they'd take to that better. We do get into trouble when I have company over and the dogs are restless because company took over "their" spot!
Ariel is exactly the same, except at night she goes in her crate. After successfully having her out of her crate at night, her 5:00 am prancing around when the sun comes up earned her another few months of night crating! Lol We'll try again in August/September when it stays darker later.
