Not Brambles finest hour. A man had a red remote plane, and was flying it on our local common. It looked huge, and he was obvious a pretty serious enthusiast. He was some distance away, so we stood and watched for a bit. Bramble was nice and relaxed, aware of the plane but not bothered at all. I noticed she clocked the man flying it, and seemed to make the connection between the man and the model aeroplane. Then he decided to land his large and obviously expensive aircraft. It took leisurely circuits getting lower and lower.... We were walking in the opposite direction, and some distance away. It didn't even occur to me there would be a problem.... Until it landed.....then oh frankfurter!! Bramble took off towards the plane, and when she realised it wasn't going to fly off....she just accelerated.... likewise the guy controlling the plane, panic clearly visible on his face. They both got to the aircraft at the same time, he snatched up his plane and held it aloft. Luckily Bramble didn't bark or jump up, just viewed him with curiosity. He was so nice, not annoyed at all. I apologised like mad, saying I really didn't think she was going to run....he replied, no harm done. Clipped her lead on to walk away, but she kept sneaking glances back...little madam!
Thank goodness she didn't grab it. These dogs!!!! She'll be dreaming of 'the one that got away' tonight
I have to agree. I really dislike those remote planes and also those goofy things that look like flying house fans that people actually sit in. For two years in Spain at my local beach there was a guy with a model plane who really enjoyed dive bombing Brogan and me during our evening walks. I could have used Bramble to run up to him and eat his darn plane! Although your model plane person sounds like he was nice and I don't wish Bramble would have eaten his plane. Buuuuut....if she'd like to come to Spain and eat a few there on my behalf, I wouldn't say no.
We have drones here. I never let Rory near them he would kill and eat one if he could. Its us funny though how many get smashed into the trees on windy days. I can see the weather is too rough but they just don't get it and smash. Its hard not to laugh well I do inside
Well done to Bramble for not grabbing it, and so nice to hear of someone being nice when our dogs run up to them
Yes, he was very pleasant about it...specifically when I explained she was just trying to be a good dog and retrieve it. There is also some sort of factory just the other side of the common, and it makes odd bangs all the time, they can sound like gunshot. I think Bramble constructed her own pattern in her head...bang!...big red pheasant falling out of sky....and man with funny thing in hand makes the bang...= go, go GO!!!!! It was really interesting as this side of the common the bangs are fairly faint, but after the model plane incident, every faint bang seemed to be a prompt to glance back in the direction of the man and his plane. All in all thankfully no harm was done, but a fascinating insight into how Bramble thinks. It is not what Bramble would normally do, but she generalised clearly from dummy launcher work on Sunday...really rather hadn't though!
I hate to think, really I do. It looked like a serious piece of kit though. I think when Bramble is good, she is very good! When she is bad.....blimey!
Good girl Bramble and a nice man too Those model planes can cost a fortune. There is a club that fly them on top of a big hill where I walk so I have had lots of proofing opportunities. Hattie and I always make a point of saying hello when we see them. The guys are lovely and really enjoy chatting about their planes The only thing Hattie is interested in is their LUNCH!! xx
If we weren't supposed to laugh, well, sorry. I worry about drones too. A stupid neighbour kid with stupid parents has lost two down the trail many of us walk, bike, horseback ride on. Hit by it or just frightened by it, either could do a lot of damage.
Oh my gosh, I was so worried that your story was going to end with Bramble destroying the plane and the man going apes**t - like Helen says, those things are EXPENSIVE. There but for the grace of dog!
