I'm in the process of swapping from Eukanuba large breed puppy to Origen large puppy dry food.. no digestive issues so far (day 4 of 2/3 old, 1/3 new) but Holly eats the Origen kibble without chewing it at all. It doesn't seem to soak well; does anyone do anything clever with it to make it more chewable??

Did she eat the eukanuba food properly ? Could I ask why you changed brands ? Sorry for the questions , just trying to understand ! My lad was a bit of a hoover with his food too when he was a youngster , maybe add a little sardine to the food to add interest ?

So she eats it up really quickly?

It's pretty processed already, as in pretty mushed up, so it doesn't really need chewing. You can add a bit of water to kind of dilute it a bit. You can also divide up the food into smaller meals, and you can use kibble for training. That'll remove the issue of bolting down a large meal.

i'm changing the brand because the Eukanuba has quite a lot of cereal in it and her poo wasn't quite right (without delving into too much detail).

Yes, yes, this was my main concern; we already do three meals and take some out from each meal to use as treats and for rewards, but the sheer velocity with which she can empty her bowl is amazing; literally gone in seconds. I think I might get one of those things they have to play with to get the food out, something to slow her down!

That sounds like a great idea.

Dogs don't normally chew their kibble. Mine certainly don't, except if you give it them piece by piece. You could use a snuffle mat with her if you want to slow her down - the dogs love them, too, and it makes them use their noses and brains.

We have one of these, at first I was impressed, taking nearly 10 minutes to eat a small amount of kibble, but he is really good at it now and only takes 1 or 2 minutes max to chase pieces around the maze. Still better than 10 seconds, I guess! But still don't believe he actually chews the kibble just inhales it slightly slower!

I can hear Coco crunching his kibble (mixed with tinned), but then he's only half Lab!

Just scatter it around on a piece of fleece. It takes them ages to pick it up and it gets eaten slowly
