I don't know the back story but it must have been a very distressing time for you. At least you can let the anger go now and remember your Dad being happy. Who gets the money?
It was awhile ago, probably months ago when I posted a picture of some black crusty lesions on his back I took him to the vet and they ran blood work, they had never seen it before he already had alopecia which he was on meds for but they weren't doing anything. The only thing the blood work showed was his thyroid was low normal. The vet said that normally he wouldn't give thyroid meds to a dog with low normal but because of his skin he decided to try it. As soon as he was on thyroid meds the lesions stopped. But everywhere he had lesions he then lost hair. (He already had no hair on his bum from alopecia) so now that almost all the lesions are healed, it does look like alopecia is much worse. Going all the way up his back to the base of his neck. Even his chest has it. So the thyroid meds definitely helped clear it up but I don't think he will ever get his coat back. And you're right, @Xena Dog Princess I am hunting for sweaters for him. Thing is they need to cover his bum too or else he can't be outside due to sun burn. Poor guy is only outside to do his business in this heat. It's been 35 degrees out for awhile with no end in sight. Here is Odie's back
Poor Odie....although he probably is totally unaware. In humans alopecia can be linked with low/normal iron stores, and dermatology advise to boost the stores way up. Not sure why it helps, as it is an autoimmune thing, but seems to - for what its worth. Sorry to hear this @SwampDonkey , hope it does help with closure
Looks like I may be getting a new foster dog on Saturday! Good timing. I was just thinking today how my apartment was WAY too clean and organised and that I was probably suffering some kind of nutritional deficiency from the lack of dog food in my diet.

LOL. Sophie was eating toast for breakfast, then I saw her picking something out her mouth. I just know it was dog hair. Had a little snigger to myself that she didn't even react. Life with dogs
The OH and I were just discussing the fact that, since we've had Ella there has not been a single time that we've eaten an entire slice of cheese to ourselves. Surely it's not just us??
I agree wholeheartedly. I'm sure one of the reasons I gained so much weight after Brogan passed was that I was now eating the WHOLE pizza. He always had graciously helped me with all the crusts.
Another triumph for Coco - his first visit to a café. We sat outside on the station platform because it's hot & sunny today. He got treats and a bowl of water from the lady behind the counter. When I took the crocks back, I thanked them for making Coco's first visit easy and all 3 ladies came out to fuss him. He was lapping up the attention. He was a total star - again! We'd been in the pet shop before the café (yet another first) I'd forgotten to take treats, so I thought I'd better buy some. The man in there loved him too & gave him some biscuits. We didn't need the bag of treats after all. We walked around the village afterwards, he ignored many dogs. Someone pinch me, I must be dreaming.
What a good boy, Coco! Shadow reckons he must be saving up the credits to do something especially dastardly
People don't maliciously comment on Xena's small size, but I'm so sick of the "wow she's so small, what's she mixed with?" comments. I always laugh and say "full Lab, she's just small" but I'm sure inside people are thinking "yeah right, that's not a full Lab, lady got duped". I'm tempted to say "oh she's full Lab, she was just the runt". It's not true, but it's a concept that people can understand. As I said, people don't say it maliciously, but it's so stupid that I feel like I need to justify my dog's tiny size. Honestly, it's probably more that I don't want people to think I'm a dummy who paid good money for what's clearly not a Lab (in their mind). I once met a lady at the vet's with a Papillon, who was adamant that her dog was a Pom. I gently said "oh, she looks just like a Papillon" and she said "yeah a lot of people say that" I don't want people to think of me the way I think of that lady!
