I've had a tiny lab all her life. They are the best. Shes a great size but I always get the same thing too. I always do the sad well you don't see many about because its such a rare and unusual mating etc.i make her sound exotic, unusual. ;) i say stuff like oh well its very old line you just don't see so many now . Moo is tiny think big Springer size she doesn't look like a usual lab. Females often are smaller and big us not always beautiful. They always say whats she crossed with but they say that about Rory too they think he's a pointer cross. I think some people just like to upset others or feel superior. Moo thinks she a giant she thinks she's the boss of us all what's she lacks in size she makes up for in personality and intelligence. Rory is small to I went for a lighter smaller dog again they are good to manage. your dogs probably the same. I've got to the stage I often smile and say yes to whatever idiot thing they say. You can't argue with stupid

@Xena Dog Princess, my back Lab Sky is small - she came from a large litter and the first born was huge. Lots of people have commented on her size during the past 10 years and asked if she is a full Lab. I have never bothered about this as I know she is and to me she is perfect. More people comment on her gentle temperament which is nice.

I envy your petite labs. Monty is just about as tall as me, give or take an inch fully stretched out paws to tail, we measured on the floor one night. That's not right, surely

I think it would annoy me too. When Scooby came to our house I knew NOTHING about Labradors, I said to the chap who delivered him "is he full Lab?" because he was so big and slim-shaped, not the fat, dumpy chunk (sorry - I said I was ignorant of Labs) I had in my head. I know better now, and I would never "challenge" someone who said their Lab was a Lab, why would I? On the other hand, though, I love being asked what Coco's lineage is because he IS a cross breed, and he's obviously a cross breed.

We get the same given Vanilla is 15months and is smaller than people expect. But same as @Xena Dog Princess we get asked if she is a pure lab. They are expecting something bigger.
My comment is yes and she is full off beans would you like some?
Would not swap her for anything in the world our little girl....

    Morning from sunny Greece!

Having a gorgeous time but have been told that my poor little Stanners has been crying on a night at daycare :(

Luckily, nana and grandad have come to the rescue and we have decided to avoid him any further upset he is going home. So they're going to stay at ours for the rest of the week so he has his own bed and things and will hopefully settle back down. Poor little love!

@Xena Dog Princess have you measured Xena? The breed standard is surprisingly small. You might find she's the perfect height, and you can say "Actually, she is precisely the right size according to the Labrador Retriever breed standard. She simply has superior breeding to the dogs you obviously mix with." ;)

I like that Alfie is a small lab - when he misbehaves people assume he is still a puppy and usually look at him indulgently :L

I get the same with Pongo - "he's enormous, what is he mixed with?".
    I usually answer "Shetland pony".

@Xena Dog Princess I get the same comments all the time, sometimes several times a week. Quinn is petite compared to most labs in our area - she is slim and fine boned, however, she is within the breed standard for height and weight for females (62lbs). She is also young, and still filling out in the chest. I actually just agree with people now and say "well, as far as we know she is pure lab, but I guess you never know", just to end the conversation. I used to try and explain about American vs English and breed standards...but then I was just getting defensive. Two of Quinn's male litter mates are big labs - 80-90lbs and one sister (yellow) is about the same size as her.

@Xena Dog Princess I get frustrated too when I'm asked about Axel. 'Oh he's so tall, and slender, what is he mixed with' the first few times I didn't get bothered by it but that didn't last. I just say 'he's a lab' and I smile and I change the subject to their dog. Like yourself I know they aren't trying to be rude at all, but having the same conversation daily gets a little old.

So it definitely goes both ways, whether they are 'smaller' or 'larger' :)

Yes! I get asked this too. Or a ridgeback because of his wave on his back. :chuckle:

Is there any reason why I find Rorys twitching testicles funny. He's standing on a chair peering out if the window sniffing big sniffs for all he's worth and everytime he sniffs his boys twitch too.

I went to a regional meeting about my cancer and the results for the drug trial I've been doing for the last 3 years have come in. Awesome results we are all so happy. It was a bit of a worry being one if the first in the UK to give it a go but I'm glad I did. Out of the first 30 guinea pigs 27 of us have responded to varying degrees. So maybe I be running around the fields with the doggies for a bit longer than I imagined. Just think I got some more time and helped some others get better treatment.
