George is 11 months old and while he weighs about 27kg he is quite small overall. Low to the ground and short (length-wise), and not overweight according to our vet. He is from English/show stock.

Not worried about his health, per se, as his mum was quite small, but wondering if anyone else has a smaller Lab and when they stopped growing. Will he grow some more and he's just a late-bloomer? He has been behind on other milestones, like lifting his leg.

I personally don't care (he fits better in our small-ish flat this way and looks like a big-little puppy still), but I'm becoming annoyed at all the comments I'm getting from strangers when they find out he's almost a year old; a few have called him a runt!

Labs come in all shapes and sizes just like us.

You know what they say, 'The best things come in small packages.' Ignore the rude comments, he's gorgeous just the way he is!

At a year old he's probably done most of his upward growing but will still be filling out and building muscle till about 18mths.

My male working lab is only 25kg and 15 months old :). I like it as when he does something naughty people think he's just a puppy lol.

What height is he at the withers? Many of the Labs you see out and about are far taller than the breed standard, so Labs that do meet that criteria (as the ones from show lines often do) look small in comparison. When you look at him side-on, he should be about 50% leg and 50% body. My two field lines dogs are far leggier than this. My show dog looks very squat in comparison :)

Moos tiny her fighting weight was 23kg now she's older she's about 25kg. She's very small people always Think she's a cross breed. we've heard it all over the years she's 14 now and still fit and able. She doesn't reach breed standard height we don't care I've found a small lab to be a bonus. I had a huge lab Moos half brother and have found a smaller one easier to manage.

Edit - I've just measured him with OH and he's 57cm at the withers. Which I've just discovered is the breed standard.

He's always teeny compared to the labs we meet :D

Harley is also a small lab. I love it. I really don't think I would have coped with a larger dog - all that energy!

I haven't measured George but I will now! I bet he's within the breed standard. It's hard to describe exactly what makes him look so small - I think he rather hunches/slinks around as well... anyway, good to know he's in good company!

Yes -- people ask this with George, too. One even said "is he part pit bull?" My goodness, he's not THAT chunky.

Well, George manages to still act like a big dog (so far, at least). But you're right, at least this way I have more of a handle on him physically.

Harley is small in height too and weighs about 27kg. She's always been quite small compared to friends labs. I personally am happy that she's smaller, just like me ;)

Poppy is small, 52cm at the withers, and at present weighs 24.5 kg. Merlin I think is going to be rather larger...

Molly is smallish, certainly compared to our previous lab boy. She weighs 25 kilos at 15 months but is - in my opinion anyway - perfectly proportioned :)
She's 50/50 show, working bred. Her dad was show bred and fairly small, her mum is a working bred bitch and is in fact taller and longer than the dog. Molls takes more after her dad.

Lady is a working Lab and is also petite. I haven't measured her lately so can't recall but when she was still a pup I got lots of queries about what was she crossed with. If I recall correctly she's just on the breed. The avatar is pretty much as she looks now although she was only around 2 when the photo was taken. She weighs in at around 28kg.

I have to wonder how tall the general public think a Lab is? Coco (only half Lab) is 60cm at the withers and I'd say he's taller than most Labs I see (Scooby was even taller and 100% Lab, but I never measured him)
