Gentle hugs to you both. How absolutely soul destroying to go through these fits with her, I just can't imagine how distressing this must be for you.

How frightening for you all. Maybe a visit to the vets to re-evaluate her medication may help you - I hope so. And I really loved to read that your mischievous duo are back up to - well mischief!

Poor love , I feel your pain, having been there myself . Its that feeling of helplessness which is so awful . It can take an age to get to a good therapeutic level of medication , so I would have a chat with your Vet , and would also recommend a referral to a specialist , there is help out there, hugs for you xxxx

I do empathise with you as I had an epileptic dog and it was so upsetting seeing them afterwards, walking round and round and just not with it. I found The Phyllis Croft Foundation for Canine Epilepsy very helpful and very informative, better than my vet although he kindly learnt more about epilepsy for me and went to one of the lectures the foundation gave by a vet.

Thanks Stacia I'll check them out. All Lolas appointments are with the same vet we saw when her seizures started just over 2 years ago so she knows her very well but it would appear the epiphen isn't effective anymore. Even on the highest dose seizures are breaking through. I'll speak with the vet again and see what options we have

So sad for you both! Have you taken her to a vet neurologist yet?

I am so sorry for your Lola.
There are few things more frightening than watching your dog seize and then waiting for the next one.
We recently went through a meds change for our Riddick (diagnosed a year ago) and he is on a new tablet called Pexion. Its not cheap, but we are almost 2 months seizure free.

Spoke with the vet and she is reluctant to bring the blood test forward as she needs to have been on her current dosage for 3 of 4 weeks apparently. Just need to monitor I suppose.

I could do with doing a bit of homework to find out the different treatmentsand the costs really.

@AngelConradie may i ask how expensive it is? We picked up 90 x 30mg epiphen the other day for £41.50. That will last 30 days. We pay for all of Lolas medication ourselves because my other thought we didn't need insurance because, in his own words "I've had loads of dogs in my lifetime and none have ever had problems!" Grrr lol

The Phenobarbitone tablets he was on cost us about 20c per tablet (he was taking 8 a day in two doses) where the Pexion costs about R12 per tablet (he gets two a day). With the current exchange rate I think its about the same as you are paying for the Epiphen, but its imported to South Africa so you may pay less.
The huge plus for us with the Pexion VS the Phenobarbitone is that it isn't metabolised by the liver so there is no long term damage risk, and it works much faster than the Pheno so we didn't have to wait three weeks to know if it was working.

Sounds like it would be worth discussing pexion with our vet. Thank you @AngelConradie

Poor you and poor Lola. I hope you find a good solution with her medication.

On a bright note, she and your son are adorable together. All kids should have such a good buddy (and vice versa). :)

Hi there. Have you looked into (if available) CBD oil?

I did a lot research myself into it about 2-3 years ago, when I was exploring it's use for as a pain/headache reliever.

While it comes from the cannabis plant, it can not make you high!

If you already know all this, please ignore the previous posted information.
