Hi, a quick hello from Gorgeous Devon, we r picking up our Black Lab puppy in just over three weeks time and thought that i should join this forum, as feel the next month's I might need some words of wisdom when we have any issues. We have named the pup Max, I'm hoping we do not have to rename him mad max.Max will be almost 10 weeks old when we pick him up due to us having booked a holiday month's ago and the fab breeders have agreed to keep him until we r able to collect him.
Hi there @Tokalosh and welcome to the forum! Exciting times - bet you can't wait for Max to arrive. Is this your first dog/puppy? I would highly recommend the Happy Puppy Handbook its a great resource to get your head around your new arrival. Jac
Hi and welcome to the forum...how exciting a new puppy... The next three weeks will go so slowly! Echo @drjs@5 suggestion re: The Happy Puppy Handbook, an invaluable resource
Welcome from Hattie 9 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years. I hope time goes quickly for you, good luck. xx
Hi from me and Ella in Melbourne, Australia. Maybe you should start with Mad Max and consider shortening it to Max in a few years
Hello, welcome from Coco & me on the Isle of Man. You will get so much help here, on the forum. Can't wait to "meet" Max.
Hello and thanks for all your responses, we have the puppy book and have read it front cover to back at least three times . I'm sure I will be reading it again and again. Hoping to see Max again this week, can't wait to see how he has grown. And yes the next few weeks are going to drag by and then the next few months will fly, all good i hope !. My family have always had dogs, the last two were staffies but feel they just too strong and boisterous for our 7 year old so settled on a lab, but finding one those parents are fully health checked has been a mission, but found one about three miles from us. Ive heard so many horror stories of people buying pups and having all sorts of issues, fingers crossed we have a good pup. Can't wait to pick him up, and yes I think mad max to start with is a great option ! The house garden and office is puppy proofed i think. Looking forward to sharing our journey with you.
Not to worry you, but .... ummm.... you might want to prepare yourselves. Labs are strong and often very boisterous, too! Plus a touch larger than your average Staffie!
Yep, had Yes, had one before. I know how big and strong they can be, but then again I've never been dragged over by a lab like I was the staffie chasing a ball !
Hi and welcome from a fellow Devonian. I have two black Labs, Lucan who'll be 8yrs old on Wednesday and Ash who's just 7mths. Exciting times ahead!
Welcome from Holly and me in Monmouth. My advice at this time: 1. Check that your house and garden are dog proof. A new puppy can get under and behind furniture, through small holes in fences and under gates. They don't know that cables and shoes aren't toys. Never underestimate the escaping power of an inquisitive Labrador puppy! 2. Take LOTS of pictures because those puppy days don't last long. Ask the breeder to take pictures of your puppy and the litter too.
hey & welcome your last comment made me smile I was dragged down a hill and landed flat on my back at an 18 year olds feet just 3 weeks ago when my young 33kg lab decided he was going to lunge towards another dog whilst I was adjusting his lead half way up a hill. In no way trying to put you off - just made me smile as I didn't think it would happen either. Be prepared for it. I wasn't and it hurt like hell - i'm no longer embarrassed about falling over
Hello and welcome from Harley Quinn and myself. I am looking at your username and wondering if you have roots in Africa or are originally from here? For those that don't know a Tokoloshe is a mythical creature used in witchcraft in South African cultural beliefs.
Hello from Boris in sunny not so sunny North Devon. What is better, than the excuse of having take the dog for a walk in the wonderful countryside of Devon.?
