Hi, our puppy Bella is 5 and a half months old currently. We've been away for two weeks on holiday and left her with my sister and brother in law. They have a Golden Retriver themselves. We have seemed to notice that she is skinner than she was before. This is no fault of them looking after her but in those two weeks we have also noticed she has grown considerably. We have since increased how much we are feeding her because of her growth. We have also noticed she weighs more then when we weighed her a few months ago so this may be why we think she is slimmer as we havent increased her feeds since the last time we weighed her. Just wondering if from any of these pictures what you think of her weight? Depending on how she stands you can sometimes see her ribs and sometimes can not. Hi, @Taylor, are you worried that she is too skinny? Does your vet surgery offer any guidance? At the vets I use you can see the nurses free of charge for weight monitoring. I think it can be difficult to tell from photo's. Bella is the most beautiful colour.
Thank you, she's a fox red. I will get in contact with them to ask them if I can bring her in to check her weight
This sounds just right. She looks super in the photos, and as far as protecting her joints goes, it's better to be on the slim side of perfect. What does she feel like when you press lightly down her ribs? You should be able to feel then as if under a blanket as opposed to a sheet.
I agree with @edzbird, looks great and better to be on the slim side. Plus some pups go through growth spurts where for a few weeks they look gangly, then before you know it they've grown into their shape a bit better
When lying down you can feel them quite a bit but when standing up you can feel a good thickness between her skin and ribs
She looks pretty good in your photos. Just like kids, they go through growth spurts and lanky stages. jac
She looks fine. My puppy started to get very big, long and skinny around that age. I take her to see the vet nurse every month to get her weighed and buy her worming treatment. I find seeing the vet nurse reassuring that all is ok.
I agree, she looks great. They go through all sorts of funny shapes as they grow, but she looks lovely and slim, without being too skinny.
