Hello. Well an update on willow. The breeder "didn't have health tests to hand but would show me them at a later date." Well 2 weeks later and 3 visits down, still no paperwork. So little black pup has been cancelled and I'm due to pick up a yellow pup next week. KC registered, correct paperwork all seen and verified and i have a much better feeling now.
What a busy few days it's been.

If the pups parents are registered on the kc reg you can check the health tests yourself. I think I would have walked away from the first pup too. Hope everything goes well:)

I think you made the right decision to walk away from the first pup. Hope all goes well with the yellow pup.

Walking away from a pup you've already chosen, to go with your head (and gut feeling) rather than heart is a hard thing to do.

If something doesn't feel quite right then it probably isn't right.

Not an easy decision in any way - but definitely the right one.

I wish all puppy buyers had the same approach and standards as you.

I'm sure your yellow pup will become a wonderful member of your family.

That's a really tough decision to make... but for the record, I think you made the right one. The harder it is for dodgy breeders to sell their puppies, the more carefully they will think. Who knows, maybe next time that breeder really will make sure the right health checks are made in advance. One can but hope...

You've got time to baton down the hatches. Toilet rolls up high shoes hidden away bla bla bla. I bet the pup will beat your defences though!!!!

I walked away from a pup I'd been to see twice and had put down a deposit for. It was the mums third litter and under KC rules wouldn't have papers. That didn't bother me much but on the second visit I had a bit more of a nosey around and the lady had 3/4 other female dogs all kept in a yard. She also had a number of other small breed dogs, I can't remember the breed now. It was a nice enough house not what I would have thought of as a puppy farm in a shed but just didn't feel right.

You'd never get flamed on this site for insisting on seeing proof of health checks and results :)

Or even for walking away because it just didn't feel right.

This decision you're making is going to impact the next long chapter of your life. You need to make sure it's right, for yourself and for the good of the puppy. You're right to ensure you're happy with everything.
