Kalia is nearing 6 months and has endless amounts of energy. She is constantly jumping, running, chewing, moving...

She rarely sleeps. Sleeping through the night happens maybe once or twice a week. She is pretty consistent with a morning nap, though as she will sleep a couple hours.

Other than that, she is so very high strung.

When we are cooking or cleaning in the kitchen, she is with us and blocked in there. But she is constantly either jumping on the counter, trying to get in the dishwasher, trying to eat the trash, attempting to jump on the table, or trying to eat cat food (on a high shelf in the kitchen).

When we sit in the living room to try and relax, she is being naughty trying to get our attention one way or another.

We train her 2-3 times a day with sit, stay, down, place, leave it.

We take her on a walk or play fetch each day at least one time, usually more.

I am at a loss as to how to get her to sleep through the night. And also how to get her to simply chill out every now and then.

Any tips or suggestions are welcome.

Teaching her something new will help tire her out. Coco gets very tired if we take him for a walk somewhere new - it doesn't have to be very far, but all the new scents & sights leave him exhausted.

I found this had to be systematically taught. Have your puppy on her lead and get her to sit or lie down on a blanket whilst you are sitting on a chair. Put the lead under your foot so she is gently ‘anchored’ to her blanket and give her a frozen stuffed Kong. I did this with my puppy from an early age. It meant I could sit and eat a meal at the dining room table whilst she was on the floor next to me. I did the same in the sitting room. She learnt to be calm.

I used to break the evening up with a little walk, a Kong on her blanket, a few games, then ‘time for a rest’ - getting her to go in her bed using her little lead initially. It was hard work for several months (I have an older dog too so had to ‘teach’ them to be together) but bit by bit she started to settle really well. She now snoozes the evening away before she goes to her crate for the night.

I think you will find that 6 months old is a magical time, they suddenly calm down in the evenings:)

Thank you! We have tried this a few times and have not had a lot of luck. Kalia seems to be one of a kind ;)
