Hey folks Just wondering about xmas decorations. I dont have a large house and my xmas tree always sits at my window in my living room. I can say 100% it will never survive my whirling 23wk dervish Penny. I prob wont put one up this year ..the temptation of dangly stuff and lights hanging from a tree would be too much for her. In all seriousness i am too frightened she would chew something and get hurt ..i mean we are talking electricity as well as glass baubles and such. Anyone had problems !!!
Maybe this will be the year for some Christmas decorations that you can hang from the ceiling, rather than something Penny can reach... Gosh, I hadn't even thought about Christmas yet, but you are right, it's a minefield with a puppy.... A cold shudder just ran down my back as I thought about Merlin and the Christmas tree...
I will decrate the walls and ceiling. I have survived a cat and tree but Penny would demolish it in seconds..thank goodness i dont have little children to explain no tree to lol
Stanley was about 7 months at Xmas last year and no way was I not having a tree. He bothered it a bit at first but I just distracted him away and never left him in the room with it alone. By the time the tree came down I'd lost a few decorations but my tree was mainly fine and Stanley wasn't stuffed and turned into a makeshift rudolf so I'd call it a success
Ella was about 8 months when we had our first Christmas with her and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd thought! She had a look at the tree a couple of times and if a bauble fell, she chased it. But, other than that it was a non-event!
We haven't had a tree since we got Homer. We're a small family with just the tree of us and no kids which makes it a lot easier. I have a small wire tree about 2 foot high which gets decorated put on the cabinet. We often go away for Christmas, either skiing or visiting family abroad.
Gosh I haven't thought about Red and our Christmas tree . We have just had some fabulous bi-fold doors installed and a vision had passed through my mind of the Christmas tree going by those. Need to think this through carefully .
I've been thinking about this too. Holly can't leave anything alone; before she's allowed in the living room with us in the evening I have to scan the room to make sure there's nothing left out that she'll grab and run away with .. so a tree of wonder with dangly bits would be way too much temptation for her... but I have small people who will want a tree. Holly will be nine months by Christmas ... maybe she'll be less inclined to destroy things ..
Its harder with wee ones..a tree is all part of the wonder of xmas..i must say i am inspired by you faith that she will be less inclined
Harley was only 4.5 months old at her first Xmas and apart from chasing baubles that dropped she mainly ignored it. We distracted her a couple of times, but that was it. She got used to it just being there, but then again she's never really touched or destroyed anything in the house except for de surfing her teddies and an odd pillow.
Plum was 3 months old last Xmas. I love Christmas and trees and decorations and there was no way I wasn't having one! I also had my friend and her daughter coming to stay so I wanted everything special for them too. I put my tree on a small table and chopped off some of the bottom branches and I didn't leave any baubles within reach. Plum had a little jump up every now and then but was asked to stop and was distracted and no harm done!
You’ve got to have a tree with young children! When my son was small my puppy was about 9 months old at her first Christmas and we had a tree with all the decorations as usual ( well except hanging chocolate) and she was fine. Molly was only 4 months at her first Christmas and as we had no little ones we just had a very small tree on the windowsill. We decided we liked it and have had the same in subsequent years.
We have our tree in the front room, where we all - Dogs and humans - go to settle, so the pups aren’t allowed near it.
Oh my gosh Harley would bring us each ornament individually. I can just see the proud look on her face We don't decorate the house for the festive season. Or any season in fact - I am a bad, bad organiser of any sorts with regards to something special for an occasion. And our one spare room has been converted into my practice room for work and the other one is the cat's room with all their stuff in it that we don't want Harley to get into, with a partition across the door. So, oops, no space for anyone to stay for the holidays.
Sam hasn't ever been remotely interested in Christmas trees , or the lights . However , this will be Nellys first one with us , and given her love of lights , it could be interesting ! Definitely no flashing ones ! x
CHRISTMAS - NOOOOOOOO! Hattie was 4 months old for her for Christmas, we always have a big real tree and she didn't bother with at all because we didn't make a fuss. When we got Charlie our rescue he was a year old for his first Christmas, again he didn't bother, he had a sniff and that was it. I wouldn't give up having a tree x

My pup will be 7 months at Christmas so I will be putting his playpen around the tree to keep him away. My other dogs we always spring pups so by Christmas they never touched anything.
Bailey was 10 months old last Christmas and we had a small tree which he would sit in front of a just gaze at the lights - I think one or two baubles bit the dust, but I had put the sentimental ones up high so he couldn't reach them - he was not left on his own in the room with the tree. I was worried about my mum's tree where we were spending Christmas, but he was so busy playing with my sister dog that he really didn't give it much of a thought.
