Hi everyone, Has anyone done any online dog training courses from Absolute Dogs? I've heard someone talk about boundary games from them. I just joined loose lead walking boost 21days...
Yes, doing the Training Academy which also has Boundary Games. I haven’t done them as yet as not a priority. I have loads of videos to catch up on - I am not very good at watching them. I like Tom and Lauren but they repeat themselves so many times it gets boring after a while.
Yes I took advantage of the Leash Off Game On video when it was discussed on here. Tom and Lauren take some getting used too, but I have found it useful to do some of the exercises, things like "I love my name" and "Magic Hands" are simple things that you can do throughout the day, just a few minutes at a time, for example, and have definitely increased her focus on me. I have the ebook for boundary games which we also do. I'm a bit of a skinflint so haven't bought the Training Academy
I joined TA, too, although I've been rather too busy to watch the new vids recently, but I'll catch up when I can. I've become more used to their presentation style, which is rather exuberant. There are some fun games and concepts in there. I like Boundary Games, which are really useful in a multi-dog household.
I know Absolute Dogs have their followers/supporters but I find Lauren and Tom the most irritating and repetitve trainers I have come across. I prefer to save my money and book sessions with trainers I know I wil gain knowledge and experience from
Yes - I have a few of their courses. Leash off game on, naughty but nice, 21 day boost and boundary games. I really like them, and have been happy to pay for the content because the games are different to things I've seen elsewhere, like on youtube. I don't really mind their over enthusiasm, sometimes I skip the intro part of each video though!! @Jojo83 It sounds nice, but for some of us it's hard to book sessions with trainers. I work full time during the week, and I live in Germany, where most of the trainers either don't use positive reinforcement or, which is my fault, they don't speak English and my German isn't good enough to talk about dog training! These videos are great because they are short, you can watch them at home whenever you have time, and they have definitely improved my relationship with my dog. They are also different to anything I've heard from the dog trainers I've trained with, because they aren't about training specific behaviours, more about training general life skills through games. Maybe it's just because in Germany there don't seem to be the same sort of trainers as in the UK.
Must have a look, I love watching dog training - even of things I’ll never do. Feeds my obsession lol
Strangely enough I work during the week as well, plus evenings and weekends working with people who have behaviour issues with their dogs, and don't have top trainers living at the end of the road. I have to save to pay for sessions and take time out of my business for the training sessions. If you like the Absolute Dogs videos that's absolutely fine. I was just expressing my opinion
You haven’t told us what dogs you have @Jojo83 - any photos? It’s kind of you to work with people who are having problems.
I’ve been watching the you tubes - it’s amazing what little things I can pick up which help with problems you never knew I had lol
I'm confused JoJo - you are a trainer/behaviourist? - I'm sure I have seen you mention this.... Do you struggle with your dogs too if you have to work with a trainer? Are they rescues? I know they often have additional training needs. Sorry if I'm asking something that you have clarified elsewhere, I've been a bit up to my eyes with my own work and only popping on now and again. jac
Yes I am a trainer/behaviourist and no I don't have any particulartraining problems with my dogs. I have to confess that I really don't spend much time on their training, just work at keeping everything in shape. Having said that one of the best ways to develop new skills, training ideas etc is to organise training with another professional. There are so many exciting new approaches and hands on experience beats a video any day - at least it does for me. It also helps prevent bad habits creeping into our training which is very easy and something every trainer should be aware of
A very valid point. Helpful for many professionals, I think it is essential for many to have a "mentor" to sound off, particularly in such areas as psychology and pastoral professions where lots of listening and "transference" can occur. Same with driving instructors I believe too. How old are your dogs JoJo?
I quite like using videos, just for ideas mainly. I do like the kikopup series, very clear and precise, only her dogs seem possessed of superpowers! Absolute Dogs are great for concepts and ideas..but boy is it a long winded process to get anything worthwhile out of them!! Just wish they would get to the point in a slightly less grating manner. Can't fault their enthusiasm though I do like using like-minded training partners, or taking my GoPro and take a short video. Hard to watch admittedly but I find there is no better (or more honest) critic!
