Hi everyone I lost my soul mate Archie a few years ago when he was 14, at the time I made the decision not to get a pup until my retirement which following a health scare is going to be next summer. So next June/July I will be getting a puppy and although it's a while yet I'm thinking ahead and thought It could help pass the time by reading and chatting about Labs on here.
Welcome to the forum I'm sure you miss Archie very much. This is a great place to get a Labrador fix while you wait for your puppy. June/July will be here before you know it
@Mjd7568 , excellent idea to pass the time on here while you wait for your puppy, exciting to have that to look forward to. I'm in Herefordshire, close to Wales, with Cassie who is now 18 months, adorable, lot's of fun and great to have around She's not my first dog but my first Labrador, I've learnt so much here that has enhanced our life together.
Aah how lovely to be planning your retirement and getting a puppy - lots to look forward to. I retired 6 years ago and this year we got our second Lab - a red/yellow puppy called Red. We already have Sky a beautiful black Lab who is 10.
Welcome from me and my big boy Pongo in South Wales! Whereabouts in Somerset are you? We used to live near Yeovil, and my OH is from Wells.
Hee hee, know it well! Looking forward to hearing about your adventures with your new pup. Very exciting!
Oooh, you could be joining in the Severnside Walks before too long! Welcome from me and my tribe of three Labs (Willow and Shadow, who are three years and Luna who is one) and my Podenco-cross foster dog, Conchita. If you haven't already, I'd recommend reading The Happy Puppy Handbook, and any articles of interest on thelabradorsite.com. As you have oodles of time, I'd probably have a thumb through Patricia McConnell's The Other End of the Leash, too. Feel free to ask any questions even at this stage. Have you found a breeder yet? Do you know colour, sex, field vs show etc?
Welcome to you from Mags, Tatze and Keir from Manchester UK I’m retired too and my retirement is full of dogs Tatze is my pet dog, a black Lab and she's four years old. Tatze means 'paw' in German. Keir is my fifth Guide Dog puppy, a yellow Golden Retriever/Flatcoat cross and he's five months old.
Welcome from Hattie 10 years and our rescue boy Charlie 6 years. So sorry you lost Archie I wish you good luck with your puppy search. xx
Thanks for the tips, Nothing decided yet except that it will probably be from working lines I'm starting to look at breeders now.
Welcome from Holly and me in Monmouth. I retired 10 months ago and am having a great time exploring local walks with Holly. We've slipped into a nice routine of a long walk after breakfast (sometimes all morning if its nice) and do all the other stuff such as shopping, DIY etc after lunch. Holly is working line and loves the long walks. We often encounter deer and wild boar around our area so I've been working on her behaviour around wildlife. Its allowed me to combine some of our walks with a bit of wildlife photography. The great thing about retirement is that I can say "NO" to people - its so empowering!
Hello and welcome to you. Sorry for your loss. How wonderful to plan your retirement and getting a new puppy.
Hello and welcome from me and Tansy my 7 month working line black Lab. We're near Wells so another Somerset dweller! Wishing you good luck and much enjoyment looking for your new pup.
Hi from me and Molly. I’ve had two summer puppies and it’s definitely an easier time of year (light evenings) to have one than autumn, which is when I got Molly. I bet you can’t wait!
Welcome from me & Coco, German Shepherd x Labrador (rescue). An exciting few months of planning ahead of you
Hi and welcome from me, not too far away from you! And of course the Beanwood pack, Bramble, Casper and Benson
Hi and welcome from me and 4 year old girl, Harley from Bristol. Sorry to hear about Archie, but hopefully another pup will help ease the loss.
Hello and welcome, from me, Poppy and Merlin (who doesn't come from Glastonbury, but should with his name!)
