This week I found out that a littermate of Finn has died. She was almost 4 years old. She died of a liver shunt. Not clear if it was genetic or acquired. Finns brother was operated on a malignant tumor in his jaw. He now misses a few front teeth. They removed the whole tumor. He had also knee problems and was operated by a orthopedic surgeon. I think it was not a stable healthy litter. Mother had hypothyroidism and mastitis and couldn’t therefore feed her pups.
I would definately speak to your vet and the breeder if you can to ask them a bit more about genetics and probabilities of Finn having issues. Fingers crossed it isn't anything to be worried about.
How sad and it's understandable you are worried about Finn. I too would contact the breeder gathering all the facts and speak to your vet for help. I really hope there is nothing to worry about. xx
This is incredibly sad, those poor owners! Can you find out what Finn's CoI inbreeding score is? This might give you some information to work on. I know we can do this fairly easily through our Kennel Club.
I have made an appointment with the vet tomorrow. Finn had to go for his annual checkup and vaccinations. I will certainly talk about it!
Oh goodness what a worry... I agree about the insurance; if you don't have that already in place it might well be worth looking into it.
According to the vet is was acquired and not genetic. No doubt that it was an unstable litter, with his mum being ill and a brother with ed....His father has arthritis. He is 8 years old now. She has checked him, he was a healthy boy. I won’t let him gain much weight. He is now 30 kg, that for a show line lab...
