We’ve got a little 4 month old boy pup, has got very poor mobility. We’ve been referred to a Specialist Vet near Winchester and Bailey is now under going tests for Muscle wastage, hoping to hear back next week. We are absolutely devastated, our first family dog with a probable incurable disease. And he’s the most gorgeous puppy ever. Has anyone experienced any kind of muscle problems in their Labs? Any advice ? Kind words? Would go a long way, thanks.

    Hi there @Julieosmond
I'm so sorry for you, I know nothing at all about MD in dogs, I hope you can get a clear diagnosis soon and a plan to manage his condition. Hopefully someone will come along soon with a bit more experience.

I do have a dog with severe joint problems, diagnosed as a pup which has caused muscle wastage from time to time, so I can completely sympathise with how dreadful you must be feeling right now and how helpless you can feel at times.

Welcome to the forum from me Natalie and Monty. Xx

Thank you so much, it’s heartbreaking just watching him try to get around. He sort of barks and then we pick him up, it’s either outside for the toilet or moving into another room x

No not yet, we want to get the diagnosis in writing first. And the sad thing is, the Mum is the carrier and only boy pups can get it. The vet did ask us about the breeder because she won’t be allowed to breed again.

Thank you so much. I've been bombarded for years with the husband and children wanting a dog and I've always said no. But now the kids are in their early twenties, I gave in. And they've been great helping out and financially paying their bit too. But we've had two great months with Bailey so fingers crossed........

I’m so sorry. What a devastating thing.

I have no experience with this disease. I hope it is something you can treat and manage. My boy has epilepsy, a slipped disc, and itchy skin. Each worrying in its own and I thought my world would stop when each was at its worst. But now, all under control and well managed, he’s never been happier - I didn’t think at 6 yo we’d have a very playful puppy-like dog, he has never been healthier. So best of luck with your boy, I do hope there is treatment for his condition. I can see he managed to get himself into the dishwasher! :p

    Please keep us posted.
