We always have a real Christmas tree, complete with lovely handmade ornaments, some quite valuable... We even had one when Poppy was a puppy, because she was such a sensible young dog; but the thought of Merlin the Maelstrom with a Christmas tree is making me feel quite faint... What do others do, tree yes or no??
I wanted one with Luna. We never have a tree at home, but because I was in the UK and my sister normally has one, I encouraged her to go ahead and have a tree as normal. In hindsight, with Luna, I'm glad she ignored me
I just calmly explained to Stanley that if he touched my Christmas tree he would end up on the top of it dressed as rudolf. A few decorations met an untimely death (my hedgehog ) but generally it was fine. I'm not feeling too bad about it this year. Famous last words I know
We get more problems from the cats than the dogs who don't seem to take much notice. We had one last year when Molly was just a pup and she was good as gold and never touched it. Jenny and Biggles (cats) on the other hand were menaces as soon as anything twinkled
We always have a real tree but the ornaments are not worth anything. The pups, whatever age, have just ignored it. How about having a tree but leaving the valuable ornaments off this year?
Our tree always falls victim to the dog's tail rather than any mischief. Whichever dog. Though the Labrador tail was by far the "worst". We have placed it high up in the past - I think last year it sat on the coffee table and kept losing tinsel (sorry - tinsel is a MUST) and lower baubles.
That's not a bad idea at all!!! I do have a small fake tree with lights as well... but it just doesn't feel like Christmas without the smell of the tree! With Merlin, I think the dangers are: 1. Eating the ornaments 2. Getting too excited and knocking the tree over 3. Wagging tail knocking ornaments off and needles flying 4. Peeing on the tree
It sat on the coffee table? Our beautiful artificial tree is 10’ tall! Lol I am a bit worried about Ariel’s tail with the ornaments and am seriously considering decorating only the top half. OH is like .
We where worried about it last year, so took it real slow with the tree. Just had the tree on display, nothing on it for the day. Vanilla sniffed it as it came into the house, and then in it place through out the day. As each ornament was placed she sniffed and then just hung it on the tree. Real slow process, but in the end, Vanilla ignored it. but putting the Santa sack under the tree, well that was a whole different story....
Crikey! We had a "big" 4' cut tree last year. Before that, 3' potted trees. So the HAVE to be raised up a bit, on the coffee table.
We have an artificial tree on the floor. Holly ignores it, but gets very interested in sniffing the presents around the bottom of the tree. She's never shown any interest in the ornaments.
I thought the same when we first got Harley so I left off the sentimental ornaments. A few baubles met their end, but only if they dropped off when someone accidently knocked the tree. I left the tree bare for a few hours to let her get used to it before decorating. We always have real Xmas trees too.
So here it is - our 10' artificial Christmas tree! We put it up yesterday, AND, I'm tickled to report that aside from a little sniff here and there, Ariel has shown next to no interest in it whatsoever! Will that last?? Time will tell. Will I trust her loose in the house unsupervised?? Absolutely NOT until after the tree is down! lol 20171126_152748 by Jazzmynn1, on Flickr
Well it's far too early for a tree this year - so here's a 3 foot one from a couple of years ago (Coco's first christmas) - I think we'll be going a smidge bigger this year.
