Hi everyone, I wonder if you could give me some help please. We've had teddy since he was 10 weeks old, we were his 4th home including his breeder's! We absolutely adore him and he''s settled so well, with us and our 2 year old lab 'jet'. We received no papers with teddy, but weren't bothered as it was irrelevant. Teddy has green eyes, very pale eyelids and colouring and a pink nose. I'm wondering if he may be a dudley lab, as I've only recently read about dudleys. My vet think he could possibly have weiramarner in him but I wondered what other people's thoughts are on this? I'll attach some photos of him, any thoughts or help is gratefully appreciated
Hey @Teddy1 and welcome to the forum. If your pup is a full Lab and has pale rims to his eyes and a liver or pink nose then, yes, he's a Dudley. The term doesn't have any relevance if he's not a full Lab. How old is he now? Some puppies have green eyes when they're young, but they turn brown as they get older. I think forum favourite Pongo was one of these. Being a Dudley is considered a fault in the show ring for some strange reason, but hopefully one day they'll come to be accepted for just another variation on the colour genetics. In every other arena, they're as perfect as every other Labrador Do you know the story behind 4 homes by the time he was ten weeks?!
Hi snowbunny, thanks for the reply and welcome. Teddy's nearly 4 months old now and still has green eyes we're not bothered about showing or breeding we love him for who he is, it'd just be nice to be able to identify him. Unfortunately he had so many homes so young due to unforseen circumstances really, it wasn't his fault. He's got a home for life with us though so that's all that matters. I can't see the upload icon to put photos on, do you know how I do it please?
He's a striking boy! He could well be full Lab; you can get DNA tests which are a bit of fun. They're not guaranteed to be 100% accurate, but some people enjoy doing them. I'm going to get my Mum one; she's going to adopt the tripawd dog I'm fostering at the moment, and it would be fun to find out what she's crossed with. She certainly has a large slice of Podenco in there, but I'm itching to know what else! Green eyes aren't common but also not massively rare in chocolate Labs and since Teddy certainly has chocolate genes, that could well be where that comes from
Thanks, I'll look into the dna tests, do they show what breeds are present then? Any ideas on the photo upload, still can't see a button
Hi and welcome to the forum @Teddy1, from the Beanwood pack. I have a bit of the soft for dudleys and Teddy is no exception! What a lovely looking pup. We do need photos..so here is how to do it First, if you are not a forum supporter, this is a subscription which allows you to upload directly and removes ads from the boards then you need to look at web-based hosting sites. The main sites used are flikr and imgur to name just two. I prefer flikr, as I find it simple to use. Some tips here: https://thelabradorforum.com/forums/technical-help.18/
Thanks, they are beautiful, they're efinitely green and haven't shown any signs of changing so far. The same goes for his pale colouring as well, he's such a character!
