That's awful, so sorry you both had to experience that I hope that man takes on board what you said and he gets his dog muzzle trained.
Oh no. We had a similar experience this summer. I wish I'd thought to tell the other owner she should muzzle her dog. I did not realize how badly Oban was bitten till later, when I found multiple bloody puncture wounds on his neck and both ears. Just after we met a neighbour with her dog and I did not allow any interactions, fearing Oban might be excessively defensive. Later still, months now, I see no sign that my dog is more fearful or more defensive or aggressive to huskies. Why is it always huskies? The worst breed owners in my experience. Anyway, dogs react differently but myself I did try really hard to not tense up the next time we met any dog and especially a husky. Keir's wound is noticeable but it's not too big. I hope it heals quickly. I'm so sorry.
How is Keir today? Poor lad...what a shock for you. I do feel sorry for the owner of the dog, must have been horrible for him. Hope he is taken on board your advice.
Thank you all so much for your kind words. I have not shared this on social media as I didn’t want my family to worry, I haven’t told them about it, OH knows of course and is really upset for Keir. I filed an incident report with Guide Dogs too. So it was great to have you all to share with - it means a lot to me. Keir wasn’t too good yesterday evening, he was pacing and crying. I couldn’t give painkillers until the morning as he’d had a strong painkilling injection. But he did settle at about midnight and slept through. He’s been fine today - a little more clingy than usual, and doing a bit of whining when we were not all four together, if one of us left the room - but otherwise fine. I took him out to Church today to the Christmas fair and he was completely normal and happy there, lapping up the attention. He’s not been off his food at all, he’s a very foodie boy! We raised £70 for Guide Dogs selling my home made soap - yay! I’ll give him painkillers for a day or two more then see how he goes after that. His lip is quite swollen. We shall both brave the same park tomorrow and see how that goes. Me - I went straight to my usual source of comfort, food! The diet went out of the window for a couple of days.
Poor little boy I hope he picks up and that you have a positive time at the park tomorrow. Great news about the money raised. Shelve the diet it's nearly Christmas! to you both xxx
Oh, poor lad, I am hoping he is just bothered because his mouth is sore, probably worse than it was yesterday. Sounds like he loved the attention at the Christmas fair, and maybe that distracted him from his cut mouth. I guess all that licking, taking treats and generally enjoying himself irritated the wound a little? Good luck for tomorrow, not that you will need it, I am sure he will be fine!
He’s not a licker, young Keir. He puts his nose in the air and enjoys the fuss. He’s very unlike a Lab when being fussed. No full body wags or licking, just an aristocratic expectation of more fuss and admiration!
Glad he has had a good day. I am a bit wary about some of the strong painkiller injections - Lilly reacted very badly when she had one for a wrist injury and was distressed and crying and couldn't pee. Sounds like he is on the mend, hope you are too x
Glad to see this update and that Keir enjoyed the Christmas fair - and congratulations on the soap sales! (I love my @Boogie soap, by the way!). And forget the diet until Monday, guilt free. Hope all goes well at the park today. I suspect that will be harder for you than for Keir, but hopefully it will be completely uneventful (maybe even DULL) and get you both back on track.
All is well. We went on a lovely canal walk on Sunday and met lots of dogs, Keir was his normal self, friendly and keen to play. He was fascinated by the still, mirror like canal water, I thought he was about to jump in - all our water walks are by rivers streams and reservoirs with very wavy or rushing water. I went to the same park yesterday and he showed no hesitation at all. Looks like all the trauma was mine. I will be very wary of staffie types in future, I found the way it would not let go very horrible Thank you all so much for your support through this xx Our canal walk which ended with a lovely cafe lunch in a fabulous dog-friendly cafe
Very glad to hear that Keir took his walk in stride. Lovely photos - he already looks bigger than when i saw you both last! It really is harder for the humans to let it go most of the time. I wasn't ever not able to be wary of the two breeds of dog that attacked Brogan as an adult, and they were breeds that normally I would really love (presa canario and maremma shepherd). On the other hand, he was attacked by a golden retriever as a puppy, and apparently I've overcome my GR prejudice. Thanks, Bruce and Kier.
I know. And I love all dogs and have known some fabulous staffies. The not letting go thing is my worry really. .
