Today during my walk with Hattie we walked across this huge field and in the distance was a large herd of deer. I put Hattie's lead on, she sat, I dropped the lead and cued 'leave it', this was the result as the deer ran across to the other side (sorry I managed to not include the deer in my photo ) she didn't budge until I released her. I know she is 10 years old but I am still proud of her xx
Well done Hattie, what a star. A distant herd of deer was one thing we were never able to stop our previous lab BJ careering off after.
Well done Hattie and you @charlie. Is there any reason you used 'leave it' after getting Hattie to sit as I would have asked for a 'stay' or 'wait' as our 'Leave' simply means do not touch
Oh you're right @Jojo83 , I don't know they were the first words out of my mouth, I made a blunder I don't want her to touch the deer though I'll do better next time xx
Glad I'm not the only one - it's just as well our dogs know what we mean . I gave up long ago with the whistle for recall - why? Because when I wanted to recall her away from something I completely ignored the whistle and just called
Fortunately we don't have any deer around here! Hattie looks a very fit girl and nowhere near the age of 10.
