We have a roomba also but I have to empty it like every 15 minutes or else it won’t pick up anymore hair. But it is super handy, I use it for downstairs while I vacuum upstairs.

Axel is blowing his coat at the moment so I’m literally vacuuming every other day right now and it’s not enough but I don’t mind it, but even then the roomba can’t keep up so I don’t even use it when he moults. It’s amazing really because he doesn’t have a thick coat but oh my god the hair. It feels like I can ice skate on top of the layer of hair on the floor:rofl:

When he isn’t blowing his coat though I vacuum once a week and it’s fine. You just have to embrace the hair. I’m way too lazy to brush Axel unless he’s blowing his coat.

Roombas are brilliant if you have rooms with plenty of floor space. I have one, but we only used it for a few months. We spent more time arranging the room before setting it off than it takes to zip around with the Dyson Animal :D

I am tempted to get a Roomba but I guess it goes round everything and doesn't do the edges?

We have a Roomba but we always forget to use it. It does tackle fur well though. But so does the Dyson Animal (the hand held version) and we just use that these days. The Roomba doesn’t get everything and you have to follow it up with the proper vac anyway.

Still, I should try to remember to use it. Or ‘her’...ours is named O’Brien after the character in Downton Abbey.

I have a roomba but only use it upstairs on the landing and in the bedrooms. It does manage to get itself stuck quite often. I once found it wedged into a little Edwardian fire place in one of the bedrooms.

Is that the posh version of sticking your head in the gas oven? ;)

Roomba's are one of those things where your mileage may vary depending on your house and your expectations.

We use it to clean up sand and hair in our large spaces, we do not expect it to get under things or around everything. I agree that it does not replace a regular vacuum by any means. Our considerations were:

    1. Do we want to vacuum every single day because of the sand and hair?
    2. Would we prefer to vacuum once a week to get spots it misses?

Sand is a much worse problem than dog hair. Think "sandpaper". Not good for floors.

One other thing about them, it pays to replace the brushes and sweep thingy that cleans along edges on a regular basis.

Our next door neighbor has the same problem with sand (they do not have a dog yet, but Murphy is working on that) in their carolina room (that is what is commonly called a four seasons room) and they were curious about the roomba so we loaned it to them for a few trials in that room. They were pleased with the results but were not as pleased inside the house because of all the stuff that creates little corners it cannot get into. So they got one for their carolina room to control the migration of sand into the house. It runs automatically for them everyday.
