Tessa arrived from Romania the week before Christmas and I've been keeping her for the day this week while her foster mama is at work. She is a gorgeous little thing, super smart and the most affectionate dog I've met out Romania. She wasn't too keen on getting in the car, but once we were rolling, she leaned on the centre divider from the back (she had a harness and seatbelt on), put her head against my shoulder and seemed to really enjoy watching the world go by.

Once we were in Kallmünz, she really seemed to enjoy all the smells and was especially fascinated by the ducks on the river. We made a second stop at a cloister and I'd planned a third stop, but I could tell by the end of the cloister exploration, she was flagging. I'm sure she could run all day long, but so many new experiences in a day are more tiring than a doggie marathon, poor girl. We ended the afternoon back on my sofa with Tessa snoring away on my chest.

It was a good day. :)

Tomorrow her foster mama takes her to her forever home. Have a good life, little Tessa - you are a wunderschön little Fraulein.

And here is a touristy shot of lovely Kallmünz - a river, a castle, a bridge, artsy-fartsy street art - it's a little jewel of Bavarian quirkiness...

She is the spitting image of the dog my daughter and her husband have adopted. The dog was brought over from Romania and then the person who had him couldn't keep him.

Good for them for adopting him! Do they have any guesses what the mix might be? The rescue person insists she's a border collie mix but I can't see that - she's really a pretty small dog plus does not act BC-ish. Looks like a little fox to me. :)

My friend has a dog from Romania she had her from a pup. She had her DNA tested it came back collie gsd and mastiff. My friend was worried she be massive but she's small about the size of a small collie. :)

They initially thought he was a Border Collie/Lab, but not sure now, they definitely think there is Lab after seeing the behaviour traits of mine and he has twice nipped into a hedge and come out with a pheasant. I haven't seen him, only photos and they say he is quite small.

Oh my goodness, what a little beauty. I want her! She looks all collie to me. My last full collie was quite dainty like her.

Come on down to Bayern, you'll like it, I promise! :)

I agree - if she was bigger, I would have snatched her up. I regularly have breakfast with a couple ladies, one of whom was her foster mom, and so Tessa was there her first day and kept jumping up to try to get food off the table. Foster mom is a big CM disciple, so was doing "Shht!" noises and pushing her away. I said, "Look, she likes that you are pushing her away - it's attention. Just turn away and as soon as she does what you want, reward her". Sure enough, smart little girl, when the jumping didn't get her anything, she started throwing up behaviours right and left. As soon as she did a down, I gave her a bit of roll. She tried jumping up again, got nothing, then immediately plunked back down and looked at me. More roll. No more jumping. Very smart dog!

She's only about 12 kg/25 pounds. Do they really come that small? But that little face does look BC, you are right!

Yes, they can be diddly - we have a tiny but very grumpy Border Collie in our class called Lola. She hates all the other Collies, she's fine with most other dogs though.

She could have some Shetland Sheepdog, no? I mean, the markings are all wrong, but she's the same size as a Sheltie.

Yes, that's a pretty likely possibility as well. It's not really important what she is, but it's fun to try to guess!

Reports from her first night with her new family is that her 'big brother dog' (another Romanian rescue now 13 years old) grumbled a bit at her but at the end of the day he was in her bed and she was happily ensconced on the sofa. :)
