Ellas name tag has her first name and surname on one side then address and mob number did not have chipped on it as no room and all dogs have to be micro chipped so thought no point
The NZ laws are slightly more relaxed than Australia's (Melbourne's, at least). Dogs have to wear their rego tags, and the fees vary from council to council. My council is one of the most expensive in NZ. If your dog is spayed/neutered it whacks $50 off the cost, and there are extra discounts if you have a secure section. I think there's a limit on dogs per household - 3? Do cats have to be registered in Melbs, @Emily ?
do you know if it's expensive? That's fascinating to me. There can't be many cities on earth where cat registration is required.
Yes for sure microchips can migrate. It caused a few problems when one of our fosters had been newly microchipped. Whilst scanning to check, the vet confirmed he had found the chip, but the number didn't match. The second scan revealed the original chip.
This thread reminded me of when I was a spectator at a dog show some fifteen years ago, without my dog. I was standing by the ringside when a woman I didn’t know from Adam thrust one of her dog’s leads at me and said, ‘Just hold her for a few minutes will you,’ and disappeared with her other dog. The dog, a border collie, was quite agitated, and I was making useless soothing noises when I decided to look at her collar. ‘Oh, you’re called Tess!’ I exclaimed ( my sister had a BC called Tess at the time). Well the dog leapt round to face me , wagged hard and then relaxed. It was as if once I knew her name she felt she could trust me. And yes, the owner did shortly return to reclaim her dog. Pointless anecdote.
Maybe not. When I was a youngster (not so very long after dinosaurs roamed the earth ) the dog's name was not put on tags , the reason being that the dog responding to it's name could be taken as proof of ownership by any official body, police I suppose. This of course was before microchips, mobiles and the internet.com.
