peannut is now ten weeks old and we have sorted the night crating out. I sleep next to her on an air bed and she is an angel and goes straight to sleep at 10pm. then wee break at 2am and back to sleep.however in the day time I put her in the crate with kongs or her dinner, but, as soon as she realizes the door is shut she yells.I have done alot of click for quiet, but, it doesnt seem to work, she is only confined when I shower or eat, but, she makes a terrible row and ignores all the kongs and treats she normally loves. she is now brilliant in her car crate and usually goes to sleep. so I cant figure out why shes not happy in her home crate in the day.Any advice would be wonderful,as a present I am unable to leave her for even ten mins!!
How about a puppy pen? My Gypsy hated the crate with a passion, so I got rid of it and put her bed in a puppy pen. She didn’t look back.
Unfortunately some dogs just don't take to the crate when someone is home. My girl used to go in happily when I went to work, but if I was home there was no chance she was going in. She would scream blue murder. I decided to take her into the bathroom with me so I could shower, and she would curl up on the floor and sleep until I was done. We never cracked night times either - she sleeps with us, but I'm happy with this.
We used a crate at night, and a pen in the day time. Coopers crate is now in the kitchen, but we have never closed the door on it. It is just her private space.
thankyou for your help boogie, would I be able to leave peanut in a pen in the lounge without her escaping?we only have enough room in the lounge.when she yells in her crate s he gets hysterical and shakes, even treats do not work when shes in this state,do I need a specialist to help her? ruthxx
Gypsy was the same - screamed and shouted in the crate. Most pups can’t escape puppy pens (‘tho I had one who did once she was five months old ) I wouldn’t get a specialist at this young age, such a lot changes in a week or two, I’d try to work out what works for her. .
Its still early days at 10 weeks old my Ella would scream at 1st but would still have my shower ect now she is used to it
