Hi us again, Bagheera has diarrhoea again but there's no blood this time. He's on chicken and rice but got up this morning and he had had an accident last night. There was poo everywhere. Any advice please.
I think maybe a trip to the Vets again , he may have a nasty gut bacteria which needs an additional course of antibiotics , poor little love , and you too having to clean up !
Yes, probably another visit to the vet. It's as well to check and particularly to make sure that he doesn't become dehydrated if the diarrhoea continues. I hope he's better soon.
My boy had bloody diarrhea for an extended period - I can’t remember if it was two weeks or two months (haha - good thing I don’t remember bad things too clearly!). The vet called it Garbage Bin Disease (for obvious reasons! My boy is a scavenger!) and prescribed only cooked chicken until the diarrhea cleared up plus kefir. Snowie usually eats raw food, but he said his gut was not fighting off bacteria well at the time, so he preferred all food cooked. Snowie happily lived off roast chicken and kefir, and the bloody diarrhea cleared up. He went back to raw food but we kept up feeding kefir, and I’m pleased to say it’s been about 7 months with no further incidents. I started making my own kefir and it really is amazing how it cultures overnight! I also started reading up on fermented foods and am now a strong believer in their benefit - I eat the kefir myself, too.

my little girl had a bout of ringworm and hookworm after we brought her home and she would have nasty diarrhea every night and even during the day- the vet took a quick stool sample and gave us meds once we figured out why. she was feeling like herself again after just 3 days. hope your baby feels better soon!
His had all meds just a few weeks ago. I think he may have eaten something he shouldn't bit will call the vets tomorrow jist to be in the safe side. X
Apparently homemade kefir is one of the best probiotics you can use. I read a paper comparing store-bought yoghurt with homemade kefir, and the store-bought yoghurt scored very, very low in probiotics. Homemade kefir scored v high. But in addition, one needs to feed one’s gut bacteria with prebiotics - food the bacteria need to eat to produce lactic acid, which then creates an environment in which the bad bacteria can’t thrive in. Prebiotics are foods high in fibre like brocolli, which happens to be Snowie’s favourite, he begs for steamed brocolli!!
Hi Vicci, I agree a vet trip would be worthwhile to be on the safe side. We had similar problems with our pup when she was younger. It is really worrying. In our case, Bonnie was otherwise completely fine so as per the vets advise we decided to change her food. She is now on Wainwright's grain free hypoallergenic dry food (turkey and vegetables). We moved her on to it very gradually but noticed a huge difference with around 2 days - soft stools but no diarrhoea. When she was finally on the food full time, there were no more issues. She will occasionally have a soft stool if given a treat that isn't quite right for her so we try to be careful with that but otherwise no more problems. It might be worth a try.

My dog is intolerant to chicken it gives him diarrhoea. I use white fish instead no rice either. It settles his tummy down a lot of dogs are intolerant of chicken. Do you think it could be the chicken?
Thank you. He's been on the same food since he's been with us the vet couldn't find anything at all. Think he's just gonna be sensitive to any change in his diet but will try didn't food gradually changing it completely.
Chicken seems to have helped him loads I slowly started adding his food back in and he seems much much better now. Thank you
