The last couple days Axel has had a fair amount of white/green dishcharge coming from his penis, well the sheath to be exact. I have noticed dried up drops around my floor and on his bed. He has been cleaning himself more frequently the last week and a bit but I didn’t think much of it until he stood up from bed yesterday morning and he had about 10 drops fall to the ground. This hasn’t happened since before he got neutered so I was shocked to see it again but also at such quantity. I went to clean it with just a warm cloth last night and I noticed he has little red bumps just inside the sheath opening and a couple on the outside as well. Right away I booked him an appt with the vet which is this afternoon. Has this happened to any of your dogs? What was the outcome? I’m sure with some antibiotics it will clear right up but it does have me a bit concerned after a quick google search (I really shouldn’t do that)
Step away from Google ! No, seriously, you do right to let your Vet have a look at him , sounds like it could be an infection, poor lad, hope all goes well x
My old boy Bones got an infection on his penis, just as you describe. The treatment was... ummm... interesting! It involved cleaning his boy bits with an antibiotic wash... He loved it, and would roll over on his back when he saw me coming with the bottle! It all cleared up quickly, and never recurred.
Well thankfully I don’t have to clean it like @Karen but I would if I had to, of course. It’s very infected and he is now on some oral antibiotics. The vet says it should clear up quite quickly. What a good boy he was though, just lying there while the vet was pushing and pushing to get Axel’s penis to extract, it looked sooo uncomfortable but he handled it like a champ.
So I suppose when boy dogs lick their bits so enthusiastically, we should be glad because they are actually cleaning themselves, rather than wincing at the slurping noises.
