Hello all, Thanks for letting me aboard. We have a pup due to come home in less than a week. We've had only Labs since the early 90s. Always only 1 at a time starting with an female american Lab given to us that I believe was bought at a pet store. She was hyper and not very smart. Since then we have had 2 male chocolate Labs. Both English with the stout bodies & blocky heads. Completely sold on this breed. Here comes the twist, the puppy we just purchased is a male "charcoal". I am not interested in breeding this dog but to have a hunting buddy and train him as a shed retrieval dog. Very excited to have a dog in the home again.

Thank you for the warm welcome. I enjoy being in the woods and as a hunter there is little to hunt in the late winter, early spring. This is however is the best time to seek shed antlers from deer. This lets one know which deer survived the season, but mostly a way to go into the woods and spend time with your pet. Out west Shed retrieval is huge and many dogs are purchased and trained for just that. Many different breeds are used for this but I can think of no more adaptable dog than a Lab.

I completely agree. We spend most mornings in the woods, either the Forest of Dean or the many woods along the Wye Valley. Sometimes it's just for fun, other times I'm photographing wildlife or with friends looking at local geology. A Labrador is an indispensable part of such trips!
