So I got in from work tonight to no sign of Stanley. I shouted up the stairs to OH who said he was in the kitchen. When I went through he was trying to get out of his bed but it seemed as though he had no control of his legs and he was really unsteady and twitchy.

He seemed completely out of it and was struggling to walk. I shouted to OH who said he seemed fine. I made him come down and look then rang the emergency vets.

OH then admitted he thought he had eaten something on his walk but wasn't sure what. When we got him to the vets the vet checked him over and said he'd definitely had something, but she wasn't sure what.

She said if we knew what he'd had just to tell her and it would go no further. We were a bit confused by that and said we definitely didn't know and she said from the looks of him he looks as though he's had some drugs of some sort.

She didn't dare give him anything because she didn't know what he'd eaten. She asked OH how long ago the walk was and he said about 2.5 hours at this point and she said it was too late to make him throw up as it was well & truly in his system.

We've just had to bring him home with strict instructions that if anything changes to take him straight back.

I haven't stopped crying since. My poor baby is so disorientated. It's awful.

I'm so so mad at OH, I can't even look at him. I can't decide if I'm more mad that he's eaten something on his watch AGAIN or that it took him so long to notice something was wrong.

I don't know what to do. I'm just sitting next to him, watching him. I just want him to be back to his usual self :(

I don't think I've ever been this worried in my life.

Poor guy, that is awful :( I wonder what on earth he could have eaten...was he off leash?

I'm constantly mad at my OH for being careless. I'm sure your OH feels terrible though. Lots of Stanley cuddles tonight!! Is he allowed to eat anything?

Oh, you poor thing! How terrifying for you. I guess if they were very concerned they would've kept him in, small consolation I know. I do hope he is OK...x

Oh no Jen! Poor you and poor Stanley (and I have to put poor OH because despite all I am sure he is distraught too). I was just commenting on how completely distressed we were when Harley came home from her spay so I can only imagine how you are feeling. We are sending Stanley good thoughts and wishes from everyone in this house. I really hope he is steady and strong very very soon. I am so sorry you are having to go through this.

    Thanks everyone.

The vet offered to keep him in but said she thought he'd be more comfortable at home to just rest it off.

I just don't know what to do.

The vet even warned us that he might bite because he's so confused :( he doesn't seem as though he's going to (and to be honest I wouldn't even care if he did) but I just don't want to stress him out more than he is.

What a horrible nightmare, just having to wait it out.i agree with @Beanwood that they would have kept him in if they thought he was in immediate danger, but that won't make you feel better right now. No doubt you will be up all night watching him. I'm sure you're OH is just as worried as you and feels awful, don't be mad at him for too long if you can help it.

Oh no, Jen, poor Stanley. I hope whatever he's eaten is soon out of his system. There's no point being mad at OH, it's not going to help. I hope you can have a restful night, keeping an eye on puppy-dog Stanley.

Oh, I'm so sorry Jen. I know how you feel about your OH, mine also seems to have no idea when there's something wrong and is completely hopeless about preventing Ripple from eating stuff. Luckily he's never eaten anything that's made him as unwell as Stanley.

Did the vet say anything about a charcoal solution helping? Ripple had that once but it may not be suitable for Stanley.

I don't know if I'm just really hoping but he seems to be a little bit better. He's been out for a wee then had a hoolie round the coffee table and managed to get on the couch. He's just laid back down now.

I took a video earlier. He can't keep his head still if you can see, really twitchy and out of it x

Sorry to hear about Stanley. Hope he is feeling better and is sleeping it off (Don't be to hard on OH as s@$t happens).

On a side note, I am surprised that the Vet still did not make him throw up. Our Vet has always said that the 2hour rule is not a hard and fast one. Would have thought she might have tried anyhow...

Keep us posted on Stanley's progress. It is really hard to keep an off lead dog from picking something up, especially if they are ranging away from you a bit. Mostly we hope there is nothing harmful in the area we walk our dogs.
