Sending my best wishes to Stanley, I hope he (and you) has a good night and that he's feeling better in the morning. And I know you're beside yourself with worry, but please don't take it out on your OH. It's so easy for dogs to wolf something down, and it's normal to just assume it's a bit of food or something gross. Xena's mostly walked on lead and you'd be amazed at what she manages to snaffle, and I'm careful! He loves that dog as much as you do, so don't be too hard on him
Poor dear beautiful Stanners. Really hope he's ok. Thinking of you and hope you all get a good night's sleep.
How awful for you. You must be beside yourself. I guess you won't be getting much sleep tonight. What a worry. I guess like the others have said, the vet would have kept him if he was concerned. What some people do irresponsible in the extreme with drugs and poisonous stuff out for pets wildlife and children to potentially pick up. Makes me really mad - maybe direct your anger towards the d*cks responsible might help. Hope Stanley is back to his normal self tomorrow, we need our mate back to normal. xx
I know someone who's dog got into some weed and he reacted exactly the same way. I am by no means saying he got it from either of you, maybe on his walk. The vet gave the guys dog something to rid it out of his system, maybe hydrogen peroxide but I am not sure. They also gave him fluids by IV. He had eaten it over two hours prior, so I would think they could maybe dosomething two and a half hours later. Frustrating that the vet incinuated it was from you two though.
Making him vomit could have actually been risky if he was so sedate/out of it that he could have been at risk for aspirating. I hope Stanley continues to improve, such a scary situation!
Just saw this and am sending you lots of good thoughts and hoping Stanley had a calm night. How is he doing this morning?
So we've made it through the night. He got up to be sick about 2am. And slept since. He woke up about 10 minutes ago and he's a lot more steady and a lot less twitchy. He's not really drinking which is worrying, but he was hungry so I gave him a small breakfast but put a lot of water on him to get some fluid into him. He's back counter surfing and his tail is in full wag. I'm hoping this means we're through the worst of it. And just as I'm typing he's had a big drink
Frostily. I know he didn't do it on purpose and he's devastated. But he's so irresponsible with the dog and I've told him so many times. This is the 3rd (and worst) time Stanleys been quite ill after eating things on his watch. On top of that he ran away chasing a sausage dog, and fell out of a tree (I don't even know). He just lets him do as he pleases and run up to other dogs and doesn't really interact with him. I've repeatedly asked him to keep him on a lead but he is really dismissive like " jen, he's a dog - it's fine". Well it's no longer fine. And he said last night that he will keep him on a lead from now on. And he'll be taking Stanley to the pet shop and buying him every toy in there on Saturday
I can't tell you how many times I've heard this before . My OH is pretty good about stopping him eating stuff as he absolutely hates monty eating poo, but I bet he misses loads as he just lets him do his thing. Stanley? OH? Orvis bed with paw prints on?
Just catching up with this - what a worry for you. I’m so glad he’s improved this morning. They can be really quick to scavenge, so OH is still going to keep his eye on Stanley even if he keeps him on the lead! I hope Stanley enjoys all his new toys!
Stanley fell out of the tree I'm still quite unclear how he got in there but apparently a branch was near the floor and he ran up. God only knows! He's definitely getting the Labrador orvis bed now OH and his dad are going to take him to the vets this morning to get him checked over and see if we need to do anything else or just keep an eye on him. I wish I could go but I have back to back clients unfortunately
Oh @JenBainbridge just read all this - poor Stanley and poor you. What a horrible thing to happen. I hate the way our Labs eat things out on their walks. We have had no end of worries with Sky and already a few with a Red. It’s all very scary.
Well this is hopefully the wake-up call OH needs - dogs are masters at snaffling things, but you've got to be vigilant to keep it at a minimum. Climbing up a tree, though Cannot wait to see the new bed! I hope Stanners continues to come right as the day goes on.
Oh Jen only just seen this, poor Stanley and poor you. This is terrible, I do hope Stanley is soon back to his normal lovely self xx I should think so too
