Finally we’ve found ourselves a puppy. I joined the forum back in October 2014, when we were first considering finding ourselves a Labrador, and have really enjoying reading about everyone’s experiences. And the daily trivia quiz too! Since then, we’ve semi retired, moved half way across the country, found ourselves a new house and spent many hours making it as dog friendly as possible. So after 3.5 years, we now have just seven weeks to wait before we bring our puppy home. Having followed the forum, read The Happy Puppy Handbook and Total Recall many times over we thought we were prepared. Now it all seems like such a rush to be ready for the arrival. Puppies were born last week, and the breeder has asked us to wait for a couple of weeks before we come and visit. I’m sure it will fly by, but at the moment it’s agony having even a few days. I’ll be back with pics after we’ve visited the breeder. Nick
OMG, quiz people, it's Nick19!!!!! Hello, Nick19!!!! So, tell us more about your pup. Boy? Girl? Colour? Type?
How exciting. Look forward to hearing more about your new puppy and seeing the photos. A few questions anyway .... Boy or girl? Colour? Name?
Working type, yellow (fox red in reality) and breeder hasn't decided which pup is going to which owner. He's got our requirements and wants to see how their personalities develop. The wife would like a bitch, but I'm happy either way. It all seems quite surreal, it's been so long researching, talking to and visiting breeders, spending time looking after friends doggies to acclimatise ourselves, and now we'll have the patter of paws in a couple of months.
Welcome back! Getting the house ready is really important, and may take your mind off the wait. It's probably a good idea to catch up on your sleep because those first few nights may be disturbed by a whimpering puppy. Lots of pictures, please, when you go to see the litter.
I'm sure you're right, having a (mostly) well trained Irish Terrier stay for a few weeks, isn't a true insight into a Labrador puppy arriving home! But it has got us used to muddy paws all over my clean car, not to mention paw prints on every pair of trousers!
I certainly plan to get a lot of sleep between now and then, and I've just made a to do list which should keep us busy! Wife has just announced she'd like a holiday the week before the arrival so she feels suitably relaxed! And camera will be coming when we visit the litter.
Breeder is 230 miles away. So a 4 hour journey home. Make that 5 hours with a few stops! But I’ve always been conscious of the advice here about finding the right breeder for us, and we think we’ve achieved that.
How exciting for you both. A holiday just before pup comes might be a really good idea so you are both all relaxed and not fretting for days before their arrival.
Hey hey Nick19! Exciting times ahead! The wait seems very loooooong, doesn’t it? I felt far more excited than I ever had for Christmas when I was waiting for Tatze. (or even my boy’s arrivals - don’t tell them!
What about the hair... and the drool...! That's exciting! Yes, lots of photos, please, and more details. Get lots of sleep and be ready to batten down the hatches! But... does this mean that Emily's crown has already been taken?!
@Granca I think you might be right! Emily's crown was prematurely bestowed Welcome properly, Nick! I haven't done the quiz in almost a year but I remember you. Your new letterbox is brilliant, I'd love one like it.
Hello Nick how exciting. One thing don't forget to enjoy your puppy, time go so fast. The other thing lots and lots of photos please, we love puppies
