Hello, My labrador (Jessica) destroys her bed after 2-3 weeks, why does it happen every time?) I have already tried a lof of different materials for beds, mats, carpets and other... It seems like she likes it first weeks and then in one day starts destroying it. It's becomes a problem for me and for dog because she eats those materials and of course it isn't good for her health. Do you have any suggestions or maybe somebody has already had such kind of problem? Thank you!
Hi and welcome! I think you will find lots of people to sympathise with your plight. I'm pretty sure @Beanwood 's Benson has eaten beds into the double digits at this point. I never had a bed eater, but the rubber/plastic moulded ones seem good for chewers (@Boogie uses these for puppies) and I can remember someone else mentioning the beds that are made of plastic piping and mesh as being tough. I’m not sure if we did the right thing or got lucky but every time Duggan decided to nibble his bed it got taken away and got a long instead and a hard floor. 2 weeks and Two beds later with lots of vigilance and consistency he never did it again. He now has plush toys and never destroys them.
I voted "bed" but he ALSO has a few pieces of vet bed around the house, and will also lie on the rug/carpet. Just not the sofa. Have you tried vet bed? lots of dogs do not chew this (though some do... I'm thinking Keir @Boogie )
I voted sofa but actually cassie prefers her arm chair She will ly on the carpet if need be , and does have a plastic bed with vet bed in the kitchen, she goes in it when we eat or she is confined to the kitchen. She isn' t a destructive chewer, but she can't resist a zip or velcro, she just opens any bed with one on it and takes out the stuffing and lies on that like she's on a cloud

I bought a couple of similar beds (Coolaroo - I couldn't get the HiK9 beds in Spain) and the dogs do like them, although rarely sleep on them. I will be buying a HiK9 on my next UK trip as I think they're better made than the Coolaroo ones and I'm one short at the moment. They're brilliant for boundary training, if nothing else.
We had to get my dog a hard plastic one because he chewed that many and I got sick of spending £50+ on beds that got destroyed in a matter of weeks. We're about to brave an Orvis one hoping he's more mature now
I bought plastic beds too as our rescue dog Charlie literally ate his bodyweight in beds I bought soft cushions and deep fleece liners for them, Hattie & Charlie are as snug as bugs in a rug, we have had them for bout 5 years x @JenBainbridge, good luck with the Orvis bed x
I've got a tuffies bed which is great and lasting well. I had an orvis which lasted for about 10 years. I only use fleece for young dogs as they eat beds. When they reach a none bed chewing stage they get a bed. I did have one bed that lasted 17 hours but I've learnt my lesson since then.
Cody doesnt eat his bed but does occasionally chew (on these occasions its a huge chew and not just 1 thing). He will re-arrange his bed. We started with 1 basket (plastic) and 1 flat bed which we could take the cover off. Now he has 2 baskets 1 in the lounge and 1 in the kitchen (where he stays during the daytime). The flat bed is in his lounge basket and he has 2 blankets in his kitchen bed. He is happy in both or on the sofa and will take himself off to bed so to speak Minimal room for destroying and cheap to replace. The basket was £8.99 in Poundstretcher (very affordable compared to Pets at Homes £30 alternative)
We started with vetbed, she would give it the occasional chew as a pup, but could never destroy it. But she chewed off pieces of her plastic bed and I had to throw it away & go back to vetbed. Then at 9 months I gave her a soft mattress to put in her crate, & 3 months on its not been chewed!
