Hey guys I collect my Loki on Saturday when he will be 8 weeks 3 days. I'm so so excited but never had a dog before and just want to be able to manage. I have 3 kids 11, 7 and 3 who are all very well behaved and easy. My husband works but I'm a stay at home mum so I have all the makings for being a Puppy-Mama I guess but the more I read about what nightmares they can be, the lunging, biting etc, makes me extremely apprehensive. I've been planning this for months and just want to do right by him. Love him so much already!
Hello and welcome to the forum from Maxx and I in Sydney, Australia. You sound very prepared and you will be fine. You will get so much support and wise advice from everyone here on the forum
Get the Happy Puppy Handbook. I came across it by accident and although it didn't make Inky behave differently it made me realise it was all normal. Don't know how many times I turned to it. Enjoy the puppy
To be honest I just go to pieces when pick up a new pup. My OH has to take charge of me and all the legal stuff I just pick up the pup and skip off to the car giggling. I really don't even know my own name. Praise them for everything forgive them everything. Don't leave anything valuable or breakable with reach and it will all he fine.
Congratulations on your new puppy! Honestly all the hard work is worth it. What colour is he? Do you have any pics.. we LOVE puppy pics
Thanks for the advice/encouragement guys. Will definitely check out the happy puppy book. Loki has an entire album dedicated to him on my phone, despite him not living with me yet lol! Just need to work out how to post them in here!
Hi there and welcome!! Buckle up - it'll be a bumpy ride at times, but you are going to love being a Puppymum!
He is a yellow lab. Well, he seemed to be yellow when born but now more fox red! Scrummy either way haha!
Beautiful puppy! Your life is about to change! Just remember that as well as all the fun, cleaning up, feeding, cuddling, etc, he’ll need lots of time out too. Puppies can get overtired and then become overexcited, stressing their humans, so make sure he’s got a cosy den somewhere to learn to relax.
Truer words were never spoken. Your pup is a cutie! I'm almost 2 weeks into this adventure and OMG is it more than I anticipated. I was warned, on this board even and I thought I was prepared.....ha! I've had 2 breakdowns, mostly from exhaustion. We're now into the 'overtired toddler' stage, at least a couple times a day I toss him into his crate because he needs a nap (or maybe I need him to take a nap) either way we get along much better once he wakes up.
Most definitely. He has a lovely little crate with fleecy lining and a teddy to keep him company in a quiet corner of living room for his chill time. I look forward to the down time myself haha
Firstly CONGRATULATIONS - He is adorable! Yes, they are crocopups and it is a VERY trying stage but it is a stage in the life of an incredible companion. Biting and lunging will seem to last forever and then...it will be over. And you will have a best furry friend, your kids will have a furry brother who will pour love all over them AND be an incredible play mate. For us Harley is a family enhancement, she has grown up so quickly, that even though I remember crying because I thought she would never stop biting or weeing everywhere it is a like a foggy memory. If Labs were easy puppies it would be too good to be true. So we have to earn our incredible furry friends but going through the crocopup hatching phase. Good luck and keep posting photos!
