So since Loki came to us on Saturday, he got crated at about 11pm and we set alarms for 2.5 hours to take him out for wees/poos. Sometimes he would go, sometimes not. We have a dog/puppy behaviour specialist coming on Saturday and she told me on the phone, to stop the alarms but just wait on him to wake us to tell us he wants to go out. So last night, crated at 11:30 with no fuss, watched him on the camera and he slept and dozed.....until just now, 6:45am. He never once barked or howled or even fussed. He's 9 weeks. I thought he wasn't able to hold his bladder or bowels for more than 3 hours or so? My husband just let him out and he did his business outside so he's not ill I don't think? I'm not complaining but does that happen? Should we still get him up?
I definitely wouldn't. If you've got a pup that can sleep through the night I'd just leave them to it and be really grateful I never woke Stanley up to go out, he shouted whenever he needed the toilet so I just let him out then straight back to bed. I'd only set an alarm if they weren't shouting, but couldn't hold it through the night and you were coming down to accidents
It can be different at night so pups don't need a wee. My last boy and first boy were sleepers from the first few days. They didn't need toileting at night and we're very easy dogs. Moo on the other hand did she was a nightmare. They are all different. If he sleeps well is happy you are lucky so enjoy it. It could all change by next week.
That's good news then. Hopefully he will do it again. When we let him out of the crate in the mornings, it's like he's on speed. Obviously because he's been locked away overnight and slept well, So energised. But that's when he's bouncing around, jumping and very very nippy. Am I right to assume that morning walks will help with this when he's able. Even the 10 mins he will be allowed after jabs, will that help to calm him a little first thing? X
Before you let him out have a toy ready and as he comes out pop it in his mouth he'll take his excitement out on the toy hopefully
I know they are crazy crocodiles at this age - All mine have been! It's 100% normal. (and it gets much worse before it gets better!) Take heart, they do grow out of it. Wear tight sleeves and skinny jeans - wellies if necessary! I keep a puppy toy in every pocket to put straight in their mouths as I walk in the room. Here are some articles with the best advice - more importantly, it works! The only tip which didn't work for mine was the yelping - that just made them even more excited. The important thing to remember is that repetition is needed - lots and lots of repetition for them to learn new skills. Nothing ‘cures’ the biting, you just manage it better. It will be two or three months at least before he’s out of the biting stage. http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-puppies-biting/ http://www.thelabradorsite.com/how-to-cope-with-an-overexcited-labrador-puppy/ http://www.thelabradorsite.com/how-to-play-safely-with-a-labrador/ http://www.thelabradorsite.com/labrador-training/
That’s good news! I’ve never woken a puppy in the night and if yours is sleeping through then definitely let sleeping dogs lie.
