I see this mentioned a lot and if I liken that word to anything Loki does, is it when they zoom around the room, up and down, skidding on the floor like a kid at a wedding and crashing into things?

    Perfect description.
Also known as "the bum tuck", or (in our house) "Dog's gone crazy!!!!".
I don't think they ever grow out of it. Pongo's trigger is usually an empty plastic bottle, and his zoomie circuit now includes bouncing off the back of sofa and chair in a sort of wall-of-death manoeuvre...

    Haha makes sense!

Is it something I should attempt to stop? Or let him get on with it? I don't know why he does it, it it's just puppy play or something up with him

I've never wanted to stop it - it is just hilarious, and such an expression of complete Labrador joy! Others might have a different view, but personally I just rearranged the house slightly so that the most fragile items were not actually in the middle of the wall-of-death circuit. I think it is "puppy play", but my boy is now 4 years old (and 42kg in size!) so they really don't give it up....it is their inner puppy coming out every now and then.

Coco's zoomies are always a few quick circuits of wherever - I never want to stop them, he has such a joyful expression on his face and in his posture. They make my smile so much.

Exactly. :) Except I don't allow it in the house. I first learned it as FRAP. Frenetic Random Activity Period. I believe it's a term from psychology.

There's also outdoor zoomies which (in Holly's case) usually includes running through puddles and jumping lots of fallen branches.

Yep, perfectly normal, joie de vivre ! I love "the kid at a wedding" comparison. I love to see Cass doing it, she had few goes on the Forum walk this morning.

The only downside was at about 12-14 months, she went through a phase of finishing them off by hurling herself at me, 26 kg of young Lab at speed charging like a rhino was not funny! But she seems to have stopped that now.

Shadow's zoomies consist of him putting his bum under and low to the ground and spinning in circles. It's hysterical :D

Moo does a Scooby-Doo running on the spot and skidding in the carpet then she launches into a crazy galloping run round the living room.obviously not now she's to old and dignified to do such things now.

Ella does these too! Especially on our bed. She also enjoys the more traditional version of the zoomies. When the bum tucks under we also say (in an excited voice) "Ella? Where's your bum?" aaannnd off she goes! :D

Love this! I love that zoomies often just come out of nowhere and you stand there and laugh your head off :D

I can cue them with Shadow to some extent. I waggle my fingers and make a "brrrrr...UP!" sound and he goes loopy. If it's inside and he starts bouncing off the sofas (I only do this once in a blue moon, zoomies are normally outside only), then I can stop him with "readdddyyyy....." and he looks at me all excited, then I shout "GO!" and off he goes again :D
But zoomies are normally NOT allowed indoors!

I'm sure I remember a video of Shadow doing the mad zoomies from sofa to sofa @snowbunny? Ages ago now.
